Where is the ELS Surround Sound Control Unit?

Where is the ELS Surround Sound control unit in the 3rd generation TL? I tried a search, but that didn't work. Basically I want to know where the Surround Sound Control box is in the car. If I find a crashed TL, I want to buy that unit to fit in my Accord. I know I'll have to make a center channel spot for another speaker. The voice would then come from the center channel and not the two side speakers.

Is there any way to do this? Basically, if there was a single box for the surround sound from the stock head unit, wouldn't the speaker wires from the Accord hook directly up to this box?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't see anything in the service manual except the audio unit in the dash, and the stereo amplifier in the right hand kick panel.

Moving this to Audio where the experts may be able to give you some more help.

No seperate ELS control unit.

Sorry to say, the instrument panel head unit IS the ELS system with the remote, multichannel amp in the kick panel. That's all there is.

So say I find a crashed TL. If I took apart the dash and center console, and I take the CD/DVD-A player from the dash and the multichannel amplifier from the kick panel, I should be able to hook them up to my Accord?

at that point your better off going aftermarket with alpine/pioneer, pioneer is coming out w/ bluetooth for some of their head units

garthumpy... you could do that yes, but remember that you'd have to get speakers to match... aftermarket speakers won't work with the OEM amp... not well anyway.

Hmm interesting. OK, so the speakers that I have should work. I can just wire them up to get routed from the Surround Sound amplifier. The only thing I would need is the center channel from the TL (or I could get another single speaker and just get the speaker connections for it).

I might have to look into this mod.

Also, if I find a wrecked TL, can I take apart the dash and get the DTS DVD player and replace the 6-CD changer I have in my car?

You're forgetting the audio curve established by the designers to match the exact speakers in the TL which may differ from the accord stock speakers. As someone else suggested, I think you're better off with after market.

The head unit in the TL incorporates a 6-CD changer, so if you take the head unit (ELS Surround) you take the changer.

Yeah, the head unit is "tuned" for the TLs speakers, so I'd grab the speakers as well. Either that or go aftermarket. :P

Hmmm. Well if a find a wrecked TL, I will take apart the dash, swipe the DTS DVD player and the amplifier from behind the right kick panel. Hopefully I can then hook them up to my Accord.

Does anyone know where I can find the wiring diagram from the TL regarding the audio system?

Does anyone have a copy of the wiring diagram for the Surround Sound system? What about the wiring diagram for the 6-CD changer?

Unhappy

Hmmm.... The word SWIPE instills fear for the safety of my in-dash unit and my car is not wrecked (touch wood).

Hmmm, "swipe" was a bad word. Buy is a better word.

Again, anyone have a copy of the audio diagram of the TL?
