What are the differences between an 04 and 07 dvd drive?

I just pickup an 07 drive to put in my 04 w/nav. Is the interface faster, does it seem to be quicker calculating routes? What other things have you noticed between the two units? Do you know if a camera from an 07 will plug in and work, or is there something else needed to make it work? Thanks, Chris

there will be a few problems, the 07 drive uses communication called GA-NETII while the 04-06 uses the CAN BUS system. This will lead to issues with HFL, the clock and maybe a few other functions. the interface is updated to the 4.xx version vs. the 3.xx version the 04-06 uses, its slightly faster, but not really. A camera will work plug and play if you buy the OEM one for 500 dollars, plus the new rear garnish that may not fit for around 200. Your best bet is to get an 04-06 drive, get an update DVD (185 dollars from acuranavi.com) and get the video converter (called Dom's TV and Nav 2 Go) where you can plug in 2 sources into the navi system, usually its 1 for dvd and the other for backup camera.

The stock rear camera requires a new license plate garnish?

Well Zeppelin77 proved that we can get around the HFL issue when using the 07 Drive, it's just this damn sub-display now. Though I am thinking maybe just maybe if we do a little more research we can find out what controls the time. I am not totally convinced that the GA-NET is causing this error. I believe it is more geared towards the Acuralink.
