Weird navi problem. Anybody else?

Hi,

My 05 TL's been having a weird problem with the navigation; first it gives a msg "Disc error" and then it reboots by itself for like 40-50mins. Then it finally works after all the hassles. So everytime it takes about an hour to get my navi working I was wondering if getting a new disc would solve the problem or its the navi system itself thats problematic. It's been like that since december or so...maybe because its too cold? but 1hr is just too much.

Anybody having/had the same problem?
I wanna know what the problem is and how it should be fixed before I bring it into the dealership, dont wanna get ripped off again :S cause my it's 67k km, so not under warranty anymore.

(fyi, I installed a rear view camera but the problems been there even before I installed it)

Thanks!

take out the navi disk and make sure it is clean. Then try and see if it functions properly. If not, then disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes. This will drain the electronics and let all the systems "refresh"

I have the same problem although it only takes 5-25 minutes to start working. I have an 04 tl with 130k. Looking for a fix too. I rather not disconnect battery cause I have many favorites stored and dont want to lose them. I tried cleaning the disc, cleaning the lens and still happens.

You pretty much have to disconnect the battery. That would be the 2nd possible cheapest fix (the 1st was cleaning the disc which you've done).

Let's say it is a larger problem within the nav unit, the dealer would still reboot it after (probably before too) they diagnose it.

Memorize your settings and take the plunge.

1. Go to your navigation then press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
2. wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen.
3. press "LOAD DISC". Wait until it's completely done.

This should solve the problem, if not disconnect the battery BUT make sure you have the NAVI CODE and RADIO CODE.
