Wavy Lines in GPS Screen

Anybody else have this issue? They seem to come and go and I can't duplicate it on command. Sometimes when I start the car up, I can see "waves" go across the screen, mostly around the edge, and sometimes randomly while I'm driving. They aren't consistent which is bothering me because I can't duplicate it. The car is still under warranty, and I have a scheduled appointment tomorrow to have them take a look at it. Has anybody else seen this, or have had the dealer take a look?

Check to make sure the ground is secure. Perhaps you're picking up some spurious RF.

Well the dealer is replacing the control unit and putting a new nav disc in. Covered under warranty, thank god. Once they have that in, if the problem isn't resolved, they will be taking next steps.

I'm not sure if they've checked the grounds or anything, but I will make a note to have them check it when it goes back in once the parts arrive.

mine does that too. 2008 tl-s---25k miles.
Do they put in the latest nav disk ? If so I will complain, otherwise I would deal with it.

They're putting the newest nav disc in mine.

From the practice - the emergence of artifacts on the screen may be a consequence of the use of aftermarket car chargers (example - for a phone).

Cool. I will take mine in too. I mostly notice it when its cold out and when it JUST starts up. Its readable, but annoying. Is there a TSB on it or anything ?

Most likely a ground issue. You are under warranty and (sounds like) you have a good dealership.
For those who are out of warranty, check your ground cable at the battery for any rust/crud. You may also want to consider replacing the ground straps with beefier gauge cable. Search Google for "The Big Three Ground" for more info on upgrading your grounding system.

No phone charger or anything as been plugged in.

No TSB that I know of...

Makes sense. I will definitely mention this to the dealer and make sure they check them out.

Just got my car back this morning. The dealer put the newest map disc in, and an entire new nav. module (under warranty). Seems to have fixed the problem so far. Haven't noticed any lines on start up nor while driving.

Is your dealer Bobby Rahal? I bought my car from them, too. Seem like a good dealership, although I use a Baltimore dealership for service issues.

very good. Check out the Regionals section for some local (and not so local) upcoming car shows.

Had the same problem in both my 2007 and 2008 TL-S. Both time they replaced the screen, didn't fix it. Then replaced the whole cluster, fixed it.

After a few months the lines will come back. I think its shitty electrolytic caps in the radio unit. They shouldn't spend the cash for niobium or tantalum. I'll keep letting them replace it while under warranty. When out, ill replace the parts myself with quality caps.

What do you mean "the whole cluster"?

Good info though!

Resurrecting a zombie thread!

Any of you guys get any satisfaction/figure out what the deal with the wavy lines are? Mine got wavy lines and would also reboot on its own; the frequency of which increased until I had the nav unit replaced under warranty. It was fine for a few weeks post-replacement; but now the wavy lines are cropping up again (but no random reboots).

My first thought was that there was some improper grounding: to lend credence to this theory, my stereo cuts out (i.e., gets super staticky on FM) when I switch into reverse. This started happening when I installed CREE LEDs into the reverse lights. However, the wavy lines occured before I installed the LEDs.
