Verizon (Not AT&T) iPhone4 HFL with a 2005

I searched around as best I could and really couldn't find posts with people's experience for this case. I'm in the market for an iPhone4 and the Acura HFL site (http://www.acura.com/handsfreelink.aspx) claims the Verizon version is not compatible with my 2005 TL (non-nav). It appears the Verizon version is compatible with some later year models (2007 and on).

Can anyone confirm this with an 05 ? The AT&T is listed as compatible but Verizon has an unlimited data plan and supposedly better coverage. I'm inclined to believe the hands free link site unless someone's actual got some experience in this particular case. I could live without HFL but it sure is nice to have.

Thanks

Why would the carrier matter? It is the phone hardware that the HFL connects to. Is the Verizon iPhone different from the AT&T one?

I can assure that that the iPhone 4 works, but I am with AT&T.

It's already confirmed the Verizon iphone 4's hardware is different than AT&T. They're on different bands (CDMA vs. GSM)

I have a Verizon iPhone, got it in February, and a 2004 TL and have had no problems whatsoever using it with the HFL. Only annoyance is having to go through the Settings menu to turn the phone's Bluetooth on and off. Apple won't allow a shortcut.

GSM vs CDMA has zero bearing on how bluetooth works. Verizon's iPhone4 works just fine with the TL, the database likely hasn't been updated to reflect that.

i know. Just saying the actual hardware inside the iphone is already different simply due to different bands. Is bluetooth affected? no idea.

The only hardware difference between the two phones is the antenna chipset, and the design of the stainless band to accomodate said antenna. Everything else (including the bluetooth hardware) is the same - check the ifixit teardowns for both varieties.

Verizon iPhone4 works flawlessly.

Since I have a 2004 TL, exporting of the phonebook and the like over Bluetooth is not an issue for me (the 2004's HFL doesn't support it). But I believe most Verizon phones have a semi-"crippled" Bluetooth capability where the phone cannot do everything that Bluetooth is theoretically capable of doing. Maybe that might have something to do with why Acura lists it as incompatible? I don't know whether you could export the phonebook from a Verizon iPhone to a newer TL, but if you can't, that might be the reason for the incompatibility statement. But in terms of simply making and receiving calls, mine has worked fine.

Verizon iPhone can dump its contacts to the TL, in fact, did so much more easily than the HTC EVO I had prior to it.

Now that Verizon has a deal on the 16BG iphone for $50, I have renewed interest, but am confused over compatibility. The HFL site says it won't actively pair, but others here seem to indicate differently.

Can anyone offer an update on the Verizon iphone 4 and HFL pairing/compatibility? (I have a 2004, so the address book is N/A).

I have a Verizon iPhone and have no issues connecting to my 2006 with navi and my girls 2006 non navi.

Like others have said the Acura database most likely hasn't been updated.

The Verizon Apple iPhone4 has no problems with the HFL, pairing, calling, receiving calls all work just fine.

In fact, I have not had a problem with any smartphone as of yet.

I am curious as to the "Dumping the IPhone contacts to the TL". Can this be done on a 2006 TL? Any assistance is appreciated.

Couldn't tell you anything about the 2006, 2008 was seamless.

Thumbs up

I have an 04 TL, and a verizon iphone 4...99% perfect match. Every once in a while I have a connectivity issue, during the call I would lose bluetooth signal to the HFL?? About 15 secs later it reconnects and all is fine. Happens 1 out of 100 calls. Besides that, no complaints at all. Now to look into that $50 deal.

this is most likely the cars Bluetooth module and not the phone.

So I suspected. But it doesnt bother me, I deal with it. Better than paying 700 for a new module.

Well, not sure what/if I'm doing wrong. Got the new Iphone and did the initial pairing fine. Left the car for a few hours. When I got back in, the Iphone wouldn't auto pair with the car. Had to start all over again with the whole pairing process.

What am I missing?
