Valentine 1

Hey guys,

I’m about to purchase a valentine 1 and plan to place it well above the center mirror.
My question is, is that the best spot to place the valentine? I live in NYC were radar detector are illegal. I’m assuming that the best place to mount it since the 6” tint in the front window will give the valentine some cover.

As well would you guys know how I can hide the power cord to the valentine inside the interior or around the dash that leads up around to the center front mirror so that I can power up my valentine 1.

Picture would be appreciated.

yes... radar detector works best when mounted high.

the best way to hide the wire is to hardwire the V1 to the fusebox. V1 comes with all you need (except a fuse tap) for the hardwire.

Another tip, when you order from V1 you might want to call them and see if they have any refurb V1 in stock. They are usually cheaper and mine was just like brand new.

Exclamation That's incorrect...

pekkieboyz,

I live in NYC were radar detector are illegal
Right from an NY & NYC Gov page...

Radar & Lidar Detectors:
Under federal law, the use of radar and lidar detectors is illegal in all commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds (see http://www.ncsl.org/programs/transportation/radar.htm). For all other purposes, radar and lidar detectors are legal in New York.

Radar detectors are ILLEGAL only in VA and DC. Plus all of Canada.

NJ, NY, PA...you are good to go.

Yeah, Radar detectors are ok in nyc. I've got a v1 hardwired into my car using an invisicord. (invisicord.com) I plugged it into the wires up by the dome lights. Didn't need to cut any wires, I've got it set so that it powers on with the car.

Here's some info:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139935

What I do when I take the rd out of the car is tuck the wire up under the visor and take the rd off. You can't see anything.

yea they are legal in NY, its illegal if you are COMMERCIAL traffic. I got pulled over once for my exhaust in my previous car and the cop was bitching about my radar detectot though.....I asked him if it was illegal and what was his point in bitchin about it...and he said "well, its not illegal but just a waste of money, bcoz it will be too late by the time you get the signal." Like I cared about what he said...maybe he was just saying that to bs like they mostly do...

Buy the remote display for your V1. You will not regret it.

It makes it easier to see your display when you mount it up by the mirror, and you don't need to advertise to every vehicle behind you (especially cops) the glowing LED's of your radar detector on your window.

Actually I believe they are allowed in Alberta and Saskatchewan. But in Quebec they are illegal even to possess and the cops reportedly will confiscate them (so if you go there, pull over at the last rest area in the US and hide it in the trunk).

For the V1, if you mount it near the rearview, just make sure that the rear antenna's view out the back of the car is not obstructed by either the mirror or the third brake light. The rear antenna is one of the main reasons for buying a V1, after all.

man, i'm not sure what the cop out in NYC uses, but the belt has the most cops at night. So watch it!!! unless you got a detector i wouldn't recommending you speeding in excess of 70 out there

I put my V1 to the left of the rearview mirror. I have an aftermarket stereo and it is on relatively high volume that sometimes I can't hear the radar go off but see it instead. I hardwired mine into the power windows fuse box. That way when I am going through a shopping center or someplace really annoying with 5+ bogeys I can just press the window lock button and turn the detector off.

Radarbusters.com recently ran some pretty thorough testing on a variety of radar detectors. I personally have owned V1's for many years. Only letdown is when, for some reason, it went out of "alignment" internally, and quit detecting K band, which cost me my only speeding ticket in 30+ years. Guess I counted on it too much....... but back to my original point:
Radar Roy believes that mounting the detector at the LOWEST possible point in the center of the windshield is best for LASER detection. Here in Ohio, laser is the weapon of choice. Seems to make better sense to me when you study the laser and how it detects your car. Just make sure your wipers don't block the antenna.

I hardwired the V1 into the fuse box. Here's a link to the DIY:

Hope that helps!
