V710 and Acura TL
V710 and Acura TL
I have a question..I don't have my TL yet, but I also have a Motorola V710 phone and I was wondering if my phone book will automatically be synched into the TL considering the whole thing with the OBEX and data transfer thing...sorry if it's been asked before..

I just do the numbers I use a lot.
Not Much of a Problem
I understand that Motorola will be soon providing a software application download that will enable you to use the phonebook that is already in the V710. Until then, there is little problem in simply "voicing" in those numbers that you most often dial. I have done it with my new TL and it did not take long at all.

I just did the programming.. I have no clue if it really updated.. this is my current version
8700_01.30.8F
anyone else?
FYI - Just called verizon and spoke to a tech, they said no patched / updates have been released lately and they do not know when one will be. Not sure how to take that.. but that is what I was told.
Paladin/someone:
I went in to the VZ store and the tech said he just received the patch. Fixes the transmission of the tower strength and batt life to the HFL. I am not sure if VZ is releasing this patch regionally, but it is available here in Dallas. I'm having it applied today due to the fact that he was leaving for a Verizon "Town Hall" meeting. The patch can take upwards of an hour to do (not sure if this literally takes that long....).

Any more news on this? The version that someone posted above is the same that I have, so I don't think that this is the long-awaited patch.
For those who have had it flashed, can you at least confirm whether or not it fixed the indicator issues (battery and signal strength) on the TL?
-EDIT- I just called my local Verizon office, and they claim that they don't have an update yet (and, more importantly, don't have any idea when it WILL be available). I know a person there who usually gives me the honest scoop on new updates, so I trust him more than I would your average Verizon counter clerk.

Ok called Verizon Wireless and got no where. They were exactly the same as last time, "we have no news or information on upcomming patches, we only will know the day that it arrives". So they give me the phone number to motorolla, 1-800-331-6456.
Called that number, went through the numerous menus... blah blah. Finally got in touch with an operator. I said I keep hearing about people talking about a patch being released and them getting it in other parts of the country. She said there was no patch released and they have no clue when any patches will be released, I told her every month I hear it will be released on so and so date, then when that date comes around its another month and it's getting very annoying. I asked for a solid date or some type of time frame, all she could say was "before the end of year is the suspected release date of the new patch that will fix these issues with the v710 and acura TL".
So semi good news.. only part that sucks is it will probably be December 30th hehe. I even told her that on the phone, oh so you mean around Dec 30th huh? She was like err yes heh. So that is all that I can provide, if anyone has any other info it would be appreciated. I tried

I went into a Verizon Wireless store yesterday (replaced my second damaged Samsung a530), and basically they told me a couple things:
1. The V710 is out of stock pending an update.
2. The only way to get one is to go to Circuit City, etc. (who is now marketing them UP)
3. There is a software update due "next week"
I'm not too thrilled with what I've seen/heard about the V710. Yet another seriously flawed Motorola product - and that doesn't even include the interface which I'm not too keen on...

Okay. I too am waiting for the updates the the v710. Having the battery meter and signal strength show up in the MID would be great.
That said, this phone is in no way, shape or form crippled in true functionality. The phone works - and pretty darn well, I might add.
The phone may be out of stock in many places (though it was listed on Verizon's web site again), and the camera may give you slightly skewed pictures, but that doesn't make it a complete piece of junk.

I love the phone to death, and yes it would be very very nice to have that information displayed on the MID. I can't stand hearing 10 different answers on when a patch or some crap will come out, why is it motorolla themselves said no patch has been released, along with Verizon saying they have not heard anything.. yet a store says "next week" and another store in Dallas supposedly has this patch already. I hate getting the run around. Does anyone have some REAL info (and in no way am I saying any of you are full of it, just the info that you receive is probably not true). I guess we will all have to actually wait till someone can provide some proof to a real update

Went to my Verizon store here in NY and they said that they didn't have any patch as yet but that they would swop out my phone for a new one and the new ones have the updated software. I went with their idea but low and behold, the software version was the same, no improvment. Oh well, keep waiting
Verizon V710 Upgrade
I called Hands Free link tech support today and they just got new information on the Verizon V710. According to HFL, Verizon's Motorola's V710 with software version 8700_01.3E.S2 pairs fine and fixes previous incompatibility issues with the TL's HFL.
I went to the Verizon store, called tech support and the company. Nobody knows a thing about the upgrade but HFL says it's out there somewhere.
I checked a demo V710 at the Verizon store and the software in the phone is different than the version listed above.
I want to keep my Verzion service but am really getting tired of BS promises of a fix for the incompatibility issues they are experiencing paring their phones to the TL.
If anyone out there has any news on this upgrade, please post.

I guess we'll get the software fix later in the year, or early next year.

It's amazing it's all so complicated, isn't it?
I'm subscribing too . . . and I've just ordered a V710 from the Verizon website, since it's $50 cheaper that way than it is in the store.
I'll let you know if it's any more compatible, but I suspect (as we've sort of all figured out) that Verizon's stock issues with the V710 had more to do with fixing the stupid camera than improving BT/HFL functionality. Oh, well.
I seriously considered switching carriers, but there's no question that here in Houston, Verizon's coverage is much better than anyone else's. I can make and keep calls in the elevators of the 22-storey building I work in.

You are exactly right, it's very complicated. The carriers that have HFL compatible phones have poor service and coverage. Verizon has excellent coverage here in North Florida but doesn't have a phone that pairs well with the TL's HFL. I just purchased a V710 and it will pair with the Acura but with a loss of features. (signal strength and battery meter) I will test the phone for a few more days but suspect that I will return the phone and forget about the HFL until Verizon is able to offer a phone what makes use of all the available features.

I don't mean this in an offensive way, but those two things are probably the least useful things about HFL in my opinion, and for my circumstances. The center box has a power tap, so it'd be easy to plug in your phone when you're on the road. Second, around here, there's always a signal.
HFL is such a safety improvement that I think the lack of antenna and battery meters is secondary or tertiary. If you go back to your own phone, or to a non-BT phone, you'll lose the HFL and just have to stare at the phone to get the battery and antenna meters. Other Motorola phones work with HFL, so it would seem that yeah, they're slow on the draw at updating the software, but it's not beyond possibility.
Of course, if you're getting it because you want to see those meters in the MID, then yeah, get rid of the phone.

Verzion V710
Stuart
Yes, I am very serious about getting rid of the V710 and agree it's kinda picky to want to get battery and signal meters working with the HFL but when driving in rural areas here, the signal meter is a big help. Why not try to get a phone with all the features working and not one that half works? After talking with the HFL tech support people, I discovered there are more problems with the V710 than the signal and battery meters, the phone drops many incoming calls when paired wih the Acura. THe HFL company will not reccomend using the V710 with the TL unless the software is upgraded..
Today, I was able to find compatible phones with Cingular that will fully pair with the Acura HFL and possibly provide the coverage I need in the rural areas of North Florida and South Georgia.
Verzion keeps promising a compatible phone but it seems they are all talk and no action. I am tired of waiting on them to catch up.

I guess why not is that in a lot of areas, Verizon's coverage is SO much better than anyone else's that I'm willing to forego the battery and signal meters to have a phone that will work.
I do understand what you're saying. And, unless Motorola AND Verizon are lying, there is a software fix out there. Motorola's got other phones that work.
As for the call dropping . . . there are a lot of posters on here who've said they've had no problems with the V710 and functional compatibility with HFL. I've scanned the other postings (regarding other carriers and phones) and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a phone that doesn't have at least a post from a disgruntled owner who can't get it to work with HFL, or who's had dropped calls.
So . . . well . . . hmm. I'm not trying to disagree. Here, in Houston and East Texas, there's just no question. Verizon's the only player. I do hope they fix the firmware in the phone.

it's not even that....I bought a bluetooth dongle for my computer, which I can't use at all to synch my phone book. I had to manually input all phone numbers into v710 when it was easily transferrable from my previous nokia n-gage.
I also can't send pictures, mp3s, or any file to my computer. It's not just battery meter and signal.
I can't close the phone and be on speaker, the phone scratches it self, my phone doesn't ring when I use my bluetooth headset so I have to keep my headset on if I want to use it. I bought this the first week it came out and I switched from t-mobile waiting for this phone to come out and then after I got it, I realized what it was incapable of doing for a "bluetooth" phone.
you don't want me to keep the phone? pay for the rest of my contract (2 years) and pay for the full price I paid on the phone, and I would gladly get a bluetooth phone from a different service provider.
