When you get it linked to you car, would you please post your results. Talk is that it links well with the HFL in the TL but the displays for battery and signal don't appear on the HFL display.

I got one yesterday (since Verizon's the best local carrier, GSM SHMEE-SM).

The current firmware does NOT display signal strength or battery life.

That said, it works FLAWLESSLY. It was a cinch to pair it to the car, and this morning it found the car on its own without hassle; by the time the Navi had booted, I already had a phone symbol on the dash. I've made and received calls with excellent voice quality. It is a great match for the car, with the exception of the battery and signal meters.

But, the problems are firmware issues and not really phone issues. It's taking a friggin' long time for Verizon/Motorola to fix the problem, which IS annoying, but the phone works quite well.

So, as has been said, you'll be happy and disappointed. I've got a family deal, and I live in a town where Verizon's coverage is the best. If that weren't the case, I would admittedly probably have gone with another carrier. But I'm happy.

Pairing was painless .... no signal strength and battery life. Hopefully (I'm not holding my breath) a new/upgraded firmware will be available sometime in the near future. Voice clarity excellent.

Thanks. I couldn't wait any longer so I went ahead and picked up my own V710. You are correct about the painlessness of pairing the phone and the voice clarity. Although I miss the signal strength and battery life displays, I miss the fact that incoming calls are not identified on the HFL display even more.

I've had the phone all of three days but it hasn't dropped a call yet. And answering incoming calls is as simple as pushing a button. But as I mentioned earlier, I hate not being able to see who is calling Hopefully, the firmware update, whenever that is, will take care of this problem along with the other display issues.

Well, I can see the caller-ID on the dash display . . . the only things I don't see are the battery and signal meters.

You don't get caller ID on the MID?

Hmm.

I've not yet had a dropped call, either . . . now it's been a couple of weeks.

Buying Online

Has anybody here used the links on this site for buying their cell phone? There are some good deals - V710 for free after rebates! Is it legit?

I had bought my other phone 6 months ago online and got a real good deal after rebates. Unfortunately i just lost it so am in the market for a new phone and provider.

Correction, I must not have been paying close enough attention, but I have now noticed that the called ID information IS displayed on the dash display. Sorry about that.

Firmware....When, What, How???

Tell us more

Do you know which issues the new version will fix? What is the Version #?

Is this the version that has been talked about on other forums which improves some issues but disables the TF card?

Any ETA on the release? Has Acura tested this and will they certify the v710 now?

I have been holding off buying this phone [and stuck with a non-bluetooth phone] until I know whether it will work. Verizon provides by far the best service for me so switching to Cingular is not a real option.

Any advance word on other Verizon bluetooth phones?

I have to agree about Verizon being the best service. I have/had T-mobile which was disappointing. Couldn't even use the phone in my own house - no network!
Then, I was just away in the mountains of North Carolina. Phone/T-Mobile was worthless while my husband's Verizon had no problems at all. And... on top of it - husband dropped my phone in the woods behind my sister's house. Couldn't try to find it by listening for ring since there was no network on it! So that phone is gone! And I just bought the V710/Verizon. Bought it from one of the websites linked on this site. Got the phone FREE after $300 worth of mailin rebates!
So even though V710 doesn't have the signal and battery showing in the car - Verizon has the best connection.

Well I look at it this way - if you had the phone up to your ear, you wouldn't be seeing the signal or battery strength. In my opinion - clarity and good connections are more important. That's why I just went with Verizon and will drop T-Mobile.

I've been with Verizon for a long time and I couldn't agree with you more about good connections and clarity. After reading a number of posts, I knew going with the V710 there were issues about battery and signal strength not being displayed. This is something I can live with and I really don't consider it a problem. I'm hoping as with a number of other folks who have this phone, an upgraded firmware will be made available sometime in the near future so we have all the functions of HFL. If Verizon had another bluetooth phone, I may have gone with it provided it was compatible with HFL.

I love the phone. The camera issue was fixed- it was released with a crooked screen. I don't miss the fact that the battery signal isn't displayed- spring for the $30 car recharger and it'll always be fully charged. My other vehicle has Bluetooth and it's so convenient to walk from car to car and it automatically makes the link- the connection is already established before sitting down.

Software enhancements will be probably made eventually so the picky people who frequent this forum will eventually be happy- except for those who are never happy.

I added the Motorola HS 820 Bluetooth earpiece so when I'm not in the car a wireless connection is made. For you "trekkies" out there, this is must have additional toy.

I got my phone 2 days ago and no problems. Very clear and strong connection.
I got mine thru a web page on this board. A great deal! Got phone for FREE after mail-in rebates. Mine came with a house and car recharger.

Ryan, Go to - http://www.intelenetwireless.com/
Go to left side and click on Verizon - gives a list of their phones - find V710, etc.

My experiences with the phone have been good - reception and sounds quality-wise. Fit and finish of the phone leaves a little to be desired, but it still functions great.

AFAIK, there are no other BT phone offered by Verizon.

Other Boards have reported that the new firmware is available at Verizon stores in Dallas. It is supposed to now show battery, roam and signal strength although no one has tested it as well as improve the camera. See attached email that was posted on another board.

Motorola V71 0 Software Trial (Version 01.40.0R) (Feedback Due Monday D_ec 6)

Mobilezen ......have you gotten the firmware yet. How does it check out??

Importance:

High

Please let me know if you or your direct reports carry the Motorola v710 and are willing to test this new software. This is for VzW employees/contractors only.

Feedback is due by noon on Monday 12/6.

Issues Resolved in Version 01.40.0R
Camera
. Improve still image after megapixel capture. This introduces a slight delay but the decimation is much improved. . Change order of resolution set so that 160x120 Thumbnail is first and 1280x960 High is last
. Improve ability to take complex pictures in highly lit areas with fast changing lighting conditions
. Fix a problem where rapidly opening/closing the flip after taking a picture could cause the handset to soft reset . Increase stability of picture taking. The two items immediately above are examples.

Bluetooth
. The phone and headset should ring during incoming calls
. Allow datebook and phonebook synchronization over Bluetooth - This feature was added due to high demand from
V710 users
. Send signal, roam, and battery indications to Bluetooth Carkits - This feature was added due to high demand from
V710 users as well as greater compatibility with more advanced car kits.
. Add PAP extensions for phone book entry transfers to Bluetooth Carkits - This feature was added due to high demand
from V710 users as well as greater compatibility with more advanced car kits.
. Upgrade to latest application and stack
. Fix a problem where selecting "Use Bluetooth" from in-call menu could sometimes drop call and go into "No Service" . Allow BT button press to "dismiss" dialogs on the phone's UI - This allows users to press the BT key rather than
having to find their phone and physically pressing the END key

External Memory (Transflash)
. Support MAC OS-X created directories
. Remove option to rename volume since this is not supported
. Support hot-swap where the transflash can be removed and a different card re-inserted . Support directories created by Windows
. Remove the ability to copy/move audio files from the transflash to the phone

r

Browser
. Remove title bar while browsing to increase usable space
. Add security icon when visiting secure web sites ... .
. Fix a problem where status messages (Sending..., Receiving...) were causing syste.m memory leaks. This led to soft
resets in the browser as well as other applications. . . . :
. Increase response time of browser to enable faster loading,: scrolling, and browsing
. Remove user ability to enter and create Web Sessions' ::::, . .,." ~(,.,.' ,

¬

Messaging -,,-. .". -"'.". :_,
Extend display of error message-when user tries to.s.end,DRM :content,
Use MDN@pix.vtext.com email address rather than.short coc,feJor PIX '.-" . .
Automatically download an MMS message after selecting DOWNLOAD while in a call
Fix a problem where MMS send progress meter freezes on incoming SMS
Fix problem where unread message icon still displayed after all MMS messages were read
Strip out the '+' in replies to MMS messages as well as for storing in phone book
Fix problem where the bottom half of authorization code sent by vtext.com was truncated
Do not send notify ind on deferred MMS messages
Keep a single data connection if multiple MMS messages need to be retrieved
Remove "Home Only" option from download menu. Now has only "Automatic" and "Deferred" Enable prompt to query user as to whether they want to edit an MMS message before re-sending.
¬
..,a-'.'
UI
. Fix translation of Digit Dial in Spanish
. Reduce volume of activation tone
. Increase in-call audio volume
. Reduce volume of mono tones and ringers - This only applies to certain UI tones which are played from the
speakerphone. Low
. battery tone is an example.
. Fix a problem where hitting END key during "Phone Locked" dialog bypasses the lock
. Fix a problem where hitting END key during startup with banner bypasses the lock
. Allow backlight to stay dimmed whenever the charger is plugged in or while in call
. Update Motorola wakeup to new platform wakeup
. Update Verizon Wireless wakeup graphic
. Fix problem where diagonal keys hit during iT AP entry could cause a continuous tone
. Enable Keypad Lock via key sequence MENU + *
. Completely disable the internal keypad when the flip is closed to avoid any accidental presses or lockouts of external
keys if the user sits on their phone
. Fix behavior of phone when brightness set to 0 . Keep the backlight on continuously while a call is coming in so that the user will not see a blank CLI or main display
when the backlight timer expires.
. Remove power down tone and power phone off immediately
Connectivity
. Allow 1XRTT data connections after a *228 activation without power-cycling
. Allow phone to restart after re-flashing without any interaction necessary
. Hitting END should force dormancy, hitting again should prompt user to end call from the host (PC/PDA, etc...)
Video Player/Recorder & Audio Player
. Support foreign (non-American English) characters in file names on both the phone and external memory . Support short, 1-2 character file names
. Add video record timer.
Accessories
. Fix possible power-cycling in Pro Install HFK when turning ignition off - In older kits, the phone could potentially turn
itself back on
. Fix problem where disabling the speakerphone while plugged into a car kit would disable audible ringers

P.S. the tech told me that only half of the phones he tried to update have worked and the other half fried. hope mine is going to work.

Mine in the car only rang once and stopped - if I was quick I could press button on wheel and get the call. Then... I changed a setting on the phone .

Under Car settings - turn off "Automatic Answer"

Then tried it again and phone kept ringing in the car til I answered it by pressing top button on wheel.

Alltel V710 recently added in Phoenix

Okay, work paid for it so I took it. Only three problems have come up and I wonder if anyone else has experienced them: I can't get use call waiting by pressing the phone button during a call, the "transfer" function turns the phone off in the car and leaves it connected on my phone but you can't talk on it, and the speakers seem to be getting some overmodulation in the treble region from the phone. Anyone else experienced this and is there a cure?????

basically the phone is great....you get amazing reception havn't had any dropped calls...eventually verizon will come out with updated software that will fix the RECEPTION and BATTERY METER glitch.....and ur problem will be fixed....although im not to crazy about the phones camera because it takes terrible pictures during the night time but i have a digital camera that fills that void. otherwise i would recommend this phone because the bluetooth just opens up a whole nother level of usefullness and absolute coolness in the acura TL

For the most part it seems like they are trying to improve the phone. Why the heck would they add more limitations? What's the use of the transflash then other than to copy pictures - which is rarely, if ever, needed?

I just tested the phone, with the new software, in my 2004 TL. It works flawlessly, and battery strength and signal strength --ARE-- now displayed. Also, the phone now rings, along with whatever alert you have set for the TL itself. So if you have distinctive rings set for some of the people in your phonebook, you will hear them.

I will post more details in a new thread, as there are some other details about where I got the software, etc., that will be of interest to many here.
