v600 - anyone have this issue
v600 - anyone have this issue
So I am on the 4th warranty exchange phone from Cingular
All the phones I have recieved so far, have had stupid problems, with buttons, flip top etc...
I finally get one that appears to work fine. Pairs fine, no probs... BUT
It will NOT automatically connect to the HFL. It will connect, and stay connected, but once I turn the phone or the car off, I have to go back in to Bluetooth on the phone, and tell it to connect to the HFL. Yes Bluetooth is powered on.
Its setup to connect automatically, all the settings are just default, and all the other phones I have had worked perfectly just like this.
I am already getting another replacement, and im like 99.9% sure that its not the car. But I wish I could just get this one to work, and not have to deal with another re-manufacured v600.
Any opinions, help, advice...
Thanks

MC, it's been awhile but if I recall correctly, I had my v600 automatically connect to the Bluetooth, but I found that when away from the car, the phone was searching for a Bluetooth device to pair with. That activity caused premature battery drain and so I took it off. Part of my routine now when I get in the car and start it is to pair the phone, put my seatbelt on etc before driving. It takes only moments and has the added advantage of giving the oil some time to circulate before driving off.
MINTCENT,
I have no idea if this will help, but here are my V600 settings. I'm listing anything that might remotely have anything to do with the handsfree profile stuff.
Under: Settings->Connection->Bluetooth
Device History->HandsFreeLink TM->Edit->Access = Automatic
Setup->Voice Dial = Off
Setup->Power = On
Under: Settings->Headset
Auto Answer = Off
Voice Dial = Off
Under: Settings->Car Settings
Auto Answer = Off
Auto Handsfree = On
Under: Settings->Phone Status
Other Information->S/W Version = TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.4FR
Hope it helps.

Sorry this is so long.
The problem is when you pair the Motorola v600 it is different from other phones such as the Nokia - Bluetooth shortens the battery life on all phones because it is another function for the phone that is, it will seek other connections and will make the connection if authorized. Motorola has set its phones to turn this feature off if there is approximately 15 minutes of inactivity. This would be like when you get out of range while having a cold one and shooting some pool at lunch time.
When the Motorola v600 pairs (for the first time) you will see the screen say "do you want to TEMPOARILY turn on Bluetooth. As long as you have the phone and car HFL talking it will continue. Get out of range or turn off the car and it will shut down the V600 Bluetooth if the predetermined time elapses.
Nokia just has you turn it on or off - no matter what phone you have it will put a more severe drain on the battery and you will need to recharge more frequently. (Or put in a car charger).
The phones are probably okay most of the problems is just not understanding what is happening, a serious shortcoming with telephone service/support. - try this (even though it does not refer to HANDSFREELINK - substitute HFL for other Bluetooth accessories) This was pulled from the Motorola site only the link was longer than my message:
It is not necessary to go through the pairing process every time you wish to use a Bluetooth device, such as a headset or speakerphone, with your Bluetooth capable phone by Motorola. To help conserve energy, the Bluetooth default setting on your Motorola phone is preset to OFF. When the pairing process is initiated it only temporarily powers on Bluetooth. There are a few ways to quickly re-establish the connection for your Motorola phone with a Bluetooth device it has been previously paired to.
To setup your Bluetooth headset or speakerphone and your Motorola phone to automatically reconnect, change the Bluetooth setting on your phone to ON, and verify that your Bluetooth device is set up to allow automatic access. See below for more detailed instructions. When the phone is powered on, this enables Bluetooth power so that when you turn on your Bluetooth headset, or speakerphone it will reconnect automatically.
Another way to quickly and temporarily reconnect a Bluetooth headset or speakerphone device to your Motorola phone is to go to Menu>Settings>Connection>Bluetooth Link>Handsfree where you will be asked to temporarily set Bluetooth power to ON. Then select the device you wish to connect to and if it is set to allow automatic access (see below), powered on, and in range of your Motorola Bluetooth capable phone it will reconnect.
To verify the Bluetooth headset or speaker phone device is properly setup on your Motorola phone to allow automatic access: Go to Menu>Settings>Connection>Bluetooth Link>Device History, scroll to highlight the device you wish to set and select it. Verify that Access is set to automatic if you wish the device to be able to automatically re-establish a connection.
To reset the Bluetooth power on your Motorola phone to always be ON: Go to Menu>Settings>Connection>Bluetooth Link>Setup, scroll to Power and select change. Highlight and select ON. This will enable your Motorola phone to be connected to other Bluetooth devices that have been gone through the pairing process with out having to turn the Bluetooth power temporarily on or having to walk through the pairing (AKA bonding) process every time.
My suggestion would be to do all the pairing - get it to work then make the above changes so it will always connect.

I've got a V600 too and the problem I'm running into is when it's in Bluetooth mode and paired with the car, the phone doesn't ring anymore and it is like I can't use it as a normal phone. When I leave the car (to go in my house) it's still connected and if someone calls I can't hear the ringer or answer it. I just started playing with this today, so I've got a few general questions for you all.
1) Do you guys all go and manually take it off Bluetooth mode every single time you get out of your car? (This seems like what I have to do to get my phone to ring again once a connection has been established)
2) Is there any way to choose whether to answer your phone the regular way or use the HFL? (Like if there are others in the car and you don't want to broadcast your conversation to everyone)
3) Is it possible to dial a number using your phone and then use HFL after that's done to talk? So you don't have to program everyone's number into your car AND your phone. Seems like it was all HFL or nothing when I was playing with it earlier. I'd like to have both functional at the same time.

I also have a V600. I just have the bluetooth as a shortcut for the Left Soft Key for quick access. I don't find it that much of a hassle, just pressing a few buttons. I just turn it on while I plug it in to my car charger in my arm rest.

OK... Phone eventually would not connect at all.
I went to acura, it paired perfectly with another TL (Problem with TL, not v600)
Got back in my car, and the phone paired perfectly, and now is detected within 5 seconds of getting in my car. (Just like it used to do with my original phone)

Hmm.. I wonder if doing a master reset on your phone or deleting the phone completely from the TL would have had the same effect.
AnywayI'm glad that it works for you now. Welcome to the wonderful world of HFL!
I don't know about anyone else, but I get great satisfaction from seeing guys in Mercedes, Jags, H2's, etc. fumbling around with cel phones while they drive.
