Using GPS data on 3rd party device?

Hello,

I did some quick searches but wasn't sure exactly what i needed to search for so here goes the question.

Anyone know if you can tap the GPS data feed for other uses? My initial reaction is this isn't possible because your GPS device needs to send the sync commands to start the feed and whatnot. Was wanting to possibly tie it into a ham radio for APRS (automatic position reporting) which is a free way of doing cheap version of "lojack"

If not i'd have to setup another GPS just for that use.

I might be possible but its highly unlikely (and probably not cost effective)

My understanding is the NAV Computer in the trunk runs off a Windows CE platform. The Antenna is on the rear deck (not in the roof nipple, thats XM only), and I think its wired as an Antenna down to the computer, not as a serial standalone GPS.

So this means you would have to seriously hack the CE Hardware Device, or just give up and use a 3rd party GPS.

If it can be done with an OnStar unit, it can probably be done with the Acura Nav.
