Upgrading Sound in 2008 Type S

I am just assembling the components for an upgarde to my sound system. I will be reusing the head unit, replacing the amps and speakers with the following:

Amps
Alpine PDX V9 5 Channnel Amplifier 4 X 100 watts + 1 x 500 watts
Kicker 11DX125.2 1 x 125 watts bridged for center channel

Speakers
Front: Hertz DSK165.3 160w/80w Component Speaker System
Rear: Hertz DCX 165 130w/65w Coaxial Speaker System
Center: Boston Acoustics Se35 70w/35w Coaxial Speaker system
Subwoofer: Shallow Mount TS-SW841D 8" 500w/120w 2 1/2" mounting depth.

I bought all components through Amazon.com for a total of $945.

I obviously need the speaker wire, RCA cables, dynamat etc. I expct the total to top out around $1100.

I would save money and keep rears OEM.

how much material do you listen to with center channel information?

may need a line driver for that amp, multi channels if your going 5.1

maybe use the hertz rear coax for your center so your fronts are matched somewhat.

I have quite a few DVD audios and i always have my Prologic turned on with XM radio.

I just found some speaker adapters at crutchfield. $20 for four for the fronts and rears.

I will check out my amps and see if it warrants any line drivers. The alpine AMP has a lot of adjustment, so I'm thinking not. But we will see.

Well, the amp is nice. I think a little more research would have yielded other choices for the speakers/sub.

How are you planning on installing the sub? Looking at the specs, it has a QTS of 1.64, xmax of 3.4mm and fs of 67.5. I wouldn't expect much at all from it. In fact, i would imagine the factory sub would have more output.

What are you trying to accomplish exactly with this setup?

First sentence of my first post:I am just assembling the components for an upgarde to my sound system.

Also I am trying to keep the modifications for installation to a minimum. Therefore just going with the shallow mount sub. It was between the Pioneer and the Kicker with reviews being equal for both the Pioneer was about $20 cheaper.

I misstated on the rear speakers above, they are Hertz DCX 165 coaxial 120w/60w.

Ok, so you are trying to "upgrade" your sound system. When people upgrade, they are usually looking for a particular outcome (i.e., louder, quality of sound, lots of bass, etc.).

From my experience, I would really consider returning all (except the alpine amp) if you haven't opened/installed yet and look at using different products that are known to work well in our factory locations and provide the outcome you are desiring.

The current components you selected will achieve something, but by looking at the specs and overall knowledge tells me you will achieve a loud, very fatiguing system that completely overpowers the sub, while the sub will be only providing VERY minimal bass in mainly the 60-120 hertz range. There is NOTHING in the t/s parameters that shows that the pioneer sub will work at all well in free air, little lone sealed/ported.

I would look to the many IB setups people have installed in TL's with great success. Takes very little room. I would also look to purchase front components (buy the very best you can afford) with silk dome tweeters, since you will be bouncing the tweeters off the front windshield. If you are insistent on rears, do NOT use rears that have tweeters. The rears play very little information and tweeters off the rear window will NOT sound good. Also, the center channel should also either be tweeterless or have a silk tweeter as well.

Thanks for the input I appreciate it. I did a little research and what you suggest makes a lot of sense. I'vge rethought my selections as follows:

Front: Alpine 6.5" Component SPS610C silk dome tweeter 160 w max/80 w RMS 70-22,000 Hz FR or Polk Audio dB5251 5.25" Component silk/composite dome tweeter 200w max/100 w RMS 53-23,000 Hz FR.

Sub: Alpine SWR-843D 8" 28 - 200Hz FR 1000w max/350w RMS. I will need to cut through the trunk line, but no problem.

Rears: I am not sure about the rears w/o tweeters. I am considering the Alpine 6.5" SPS610 with silk dome tweeters 240w max/80 w RMS 70 - 22,000 Hz FR or Polk Audio db651S 6.5" with silk composite polymer dome tweeter110w max/55w RMS 55-22,000 Hz FR.

Center: I am looking for something that will match up with the fronts to blend in the left and right.

I'll also search the forum to see what other people have used in their builds.

Thanks again.

Just found this You Tube post with the speakers I was originally going to use. Says they do this to TL's "all the time"

Components in the front, coaxials or nothing in the rear.

They may, but that doesn't mean it sounds all that good. They are not known for their sq builds.
