Hello all, I've had a USASpec PA11-HON2 since last spring, with all the minor issues (like the IPod not working after switching to FM/XM and back, and the frozen radio display). I'm very happy with it overall and have figured out how to get around all these problems. However, I'd be even happier if I could get those issues resolved.

Well after I read about the new HON2Y model in these forums, I tried contacting USASpec about an upgrade last fall (as I guess others have tried as well), but never received a response. Also, I'm not sure if this new model fixes all the issues or how it's behavior is different. So, some questions:

Did any successfully get an replacement from USASpec, either for free or for some charge?

If I bought a HON2Y, could I replace the control box without changing the wiring?

To anyone who has had both models, how is the behavior different? Do any issues remain with the HON2Y?

I'm one of the ones on this forum that have upgraded from the USA Spec PA11-HON2 to the USA Spec PA11-HON2y.

The HON2y definitely does get rid of all the annoying bugs on the HON2 but the main issue that it has is that there is a skipping problem which I posted about on another thread.

In order to do the upgrade, it costs about $15 but I would honestly hold off on this until USA Spec fixes this skipping problem. Look at this thread for more info.

To get the new unit, you can do one of these two options:

1) Pay an advance deposit, they ship you a new unit, you ship back the old one when you get the new one, and they credit you back the amount of the advance deposit minus $15.

2) Send back your old unit, they update the software, and they ship it back to you.

I've only gone the first route but I'm pretty sure the second route will still cost you the $15 to do the upgrade. They'll probably have you pay that through Paypal or another means.

In terms of replacing the control box, the HON2y is the same unit as the HON2 so all you need to do is take off the wiring from the HON2 and put it into the HON2y. It's all the same. The only thing that you're switching is the box so all the wiring stays the same.

Try calling them next time at 626 336 3836. They are more responsive over the phone. I would also hold off until they fix the skipping issue that others are experiencing (i haven't experienced it yet).
