Update to NAV Disc

The Acura web site now says:

"Due to high demand, we are temporarily out of discs. We plan to have them in the middle of October. Thank you for your interest. "

My guess is that they have stopped selling 3.30G so that they will not have to deal with all the people who buy 3.30G right before 3.30H (or what ever they name the next version) and have to ship them a free update.

New version will probably be out in mid Oct - Any guess/info on new features?

Dave

if its just a letter change 3.30 g to 3.30h then it isn't worth spending $150. The only updates you need to worry about are database updates and that would be a number change

i wonder if there is actually a difference between 3.30G and 3.40G. it could be just that you have an 05 and they upped the version.

Someone on one of the other threads indicated that if the number changes (as from 3.30 to 3.40), then the maps have been updated. That suggests that the 05s are getting new map data as compared to the 04s/

:BUMP:

Ok, so the version NUMBER denoted updated database information... what does a change in the version LETTER denote?

Again, can anyone verify the most recent version (number and letter)?

You probably could. I'll try when I get home later, probalby need a DL burner, but those are cheap now. Discs might be a little costly, but nothing compared to how much these DVDs cost. Probalby the only justification to ever use DL media.

In the Navi handbook it says to call 888-549-3798 to order a disc. I was quoted $180.
I tried to burn one but apparently it is what's called a layered or two sided disc and my burner didn't know what to do with it.

The DVD is 6GB so its definately multi layer.

But I dont see why you couldnt get a DL Burner and drop $10 on a blank DL DVD and make your own copy. It looked like a plain Data Disc to me.

The bulk of the size is 3 main files. 1 looked like maps, 1 for POI and 1 for Street Names and #s.
I wonder what would happen if you made a copy and just left off the POI File. Error or just no POIs?

aGenka: Another member on here (1blkowl who lives near me) is missing his entire street which was built out around 2 years ago.

My wife's Durango seems to be worse. It was missing a new Fwy entrance that was put in 4 years ago.

When visiting Tampa recently, and looking for a restaurant, I went to three consecutive places that were no longer restaurants. The businesses that were there had been there for a while.

Then, when I drove to Daytona Beach, their area code had changed three years ago but all the numbers in the POI data base had the old area code which was NG!

When the letter code changed from f to g, Acura said there were no map changes... only fixes for some program bugs.

Usually, you can find that info on the www.acura.com site if you drill down far enough.

Signed,
XP (so there!)

Does anyone know where Acura get's the data for the CD? Since I live in a fairly rural area, there are many errors in the database. I'd like to get the upgraded disc, but not if there isn't significant improvements. How often should one update the disc living in a rural area? I'd guess they update suburban areas first, then trickle down to us country folks. If someone knew where the data came from, it might be possible to check their data first on the internet before buying a CD from Acura. Rand McNally's data is pretty up-to-date, but I doubt Acura gets it's info from them

From the Acura Owner's Link webpage:
http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/Custome...ura_faq.asp#15

I have found errors in the Navigation System Database. How do I report them?

If you find errors or omissions in the system database, please report them to Acura_Navi@ahm.honda.com. This data will be forwarded to NAVTECH, our database vendor, and will be included in future DVD updates. Client input for these types of updates is greatly appreciated.

Better yet, cut out the middle men (Acura & Alpine), and go directly to the source for your database corrections:

http://update.navteq.com/english_df....&submit=Submit

This is the better choice anyways, since you will be providing NAVTEQ the exact format that they need.

Submitting a mail message to Acura saying "The Candy's Cabaret Gentleman's club in Peoria, IL is not the south side of Main Street, but on the north side." probably won't give NAVTEQ all the information that they need to fix the problem.

I've submitted corrections to the NAVTEQ URL above. A couple of months later, I received an E-Mail from NAVTEQ confirming the error and mentioning that the correction would be in NAVTEQ's next database update. (Note: which means we probably won't see it until the 2006 model year. Alpine probably get a "frozen" database release about a year before they send their product to Acura).

I ISOed the navigation DVD. I don't have any dual layer media on hand, but I will get some ASAP.

I believe our Navigation source is NAVTECH, not NAVTEQ. The link you provided for Navteq does not show an Acura application.

OTOH, I tried submitting errors through the acura.com owners' link, link, and my mail was returned as undeliverable.

Back to the beginning.

Thanks for researching that. I see now that they changed their name to Navteq.
