Unintended navigation software update on 2005 TL

When I started my 2005 TL tonight, it told me there was a software update; do not turn off your engine. So, it updated. Then it wants a code. This is a used TL; I have never updated the Nav software. The only code I have is to turn on the radio after a new battery, which does not work. Obviously I know nothing. Help please!

This usually happens when you disconnect the battery and is just the navigation loading the disk and rebooting. You can get the codes from Acura I believe, using your cars vin #.

Thanks so much; it's weird that I just turned my car off like I always do and locked it - anything else other than a battery disconnect that could cause this? I'm mainly just worried that there is some electrical problem that could interfere with driving. Can deal with NAV and radio any time.

Actually, there are several things that can cause a "battery disconnect" which you should check.

First, check the cable clamps and grounds-- the negative cable often loosens at the clamp, and ground end sometimes loosens as well. The positive clamp and cable underneath the sheathing tend to corrode, and the positive clamp can also loosen with age.

Then look at the battery to see how old it is, and get it tested if it is more than 3 years old. If it is more than 4 years old, get a new battery ASAP. A dying battery will cause symptoms such as those you experienced.

Welcome to AZ.
