Turn off/disable HFL

Is there anyway we can turn off HFL completely since i do not use it and seems this to be one of the suspected problem that cause the battery drain so fast. I have a 5 months olf optima RT and it is already dying now.

Or any other electronic feature that need to turn off?

Thanks

Do you let the car sit for long periods of time? I have the same problem but only when I don't run the car a lot, like in the winters.

I suppose you could pull the connectors out of the HFL unit located in the area where the sunroof switch is, but I don't know if that'll throw any codes. It's really easy to get to, just pop out the sunroof switch and remove a few screws.

Do you have a navi or non-navi model?

Thanks you, Is this for 2004 TL non-navi base.

It was working fine for 5 months with the optima Red Top battery. Is it used lightly but everyday. Last day we use is Friday 3pm and on saturday night, it's started the problem. I have been using the car for at least 1 hour in the last few days after we had this problem but Seems the battery does not hold the charges. I have a problem every morning eventough i can still start the car.

I will check the battery this weekend to see if the battery is bad or not.

By disconnecting the connector, do you think it will disable the HFL so it will eliminate the possibility where HFL is draining the battery?

I think the only way NOT to drain the battery (if it's the HFL) is be disconnecting the HFL itself, or perhaps pull the fuse for it.

I have heard of Optima's having some bad batteries. So, it just may be the battery itself.

Also here is a TSB where the HFL has been the problem:

Good luck.......
