Subwoofer Question

Hello there.
I am looking for subwoofers that can really low bass with very accurate setting.

I mostly listen to classic/orchestra/ballad/metal(rock).

I noticed that most of timpanis respond above 300hz.

When I see subwoofers, the spec says 29~150Hz(MTX), 30~500Hz(Alpine), and even 40~2000Hz(Sony). I know all of that frequency has purpose, but I would like to know what kind of subwoofer I should go for.

I compared Infinity Perfect Subwoofer to MTX and MTX subwoofer sounded so clean, very sharp, powerful, and accurate. But the thing I was worried about was the frequency response. Are there other subwoofers which have those features and better frequency response?

Also I heard that I will have to change the battery and alternator if I pass the limit. What would be the safest limit watt without changing battery and alternator for 06 TL?

Thank you for helping me and have a great day!

I'm not up on car audio, but in Home theater you don;t want a sub that has a large frequency response. Most goo high ends subs will top out aroun 200Hz. I sub is a very specialized speaker and the MTX probably sounds that good because it is designed well and target to those frequencies. The key is to make sure all your speakers crossover at the corresponding frequencies of each other so you don't have any dips in the frequency range and that all the speakers cover the entire range. Usually this is done by using speakers from the same MFG as they will design each component knowing where their other corresponding components will crossover. The specs of that sony you listed make it an all around speaker, not a sub. Even the Alpine going to 500Hz is a stretch for a sub. And again I am basing this on my home Theater expieriences.

I see. I am also interested in Home Theatre system as well. My subwoofer in my room only responds from 29~120Hz which makes me think like "Oh this needs to be stretched a little more like 200Hz or something". Thank you very much for your reply.

Then is there any very strong competitor against MTX? I believe there would be some.

Thanks.

Try these:

http://www.tcsounds.com/index.htm

http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/products_page.php?id=idmax&type=sub

http://www.daytonaudio.com/loudspeaker/drv_titanic.html

All can be used in the home or the car. Very well regarded in HT and car SQ

I have the TC-Sounds TC-1000 10". Very accurate in a small sealed box. The sound really depends upon how the box is made.

I personally am VERY happy with my Rockford Fosgate Power Sub (T112D4). Good with rock and hip hop.

Thank you very much guys.

King of Pain, I haven't seen or heard any of the subwoofers you've posted above.

So they are the competitors eh? They look pretty cool to me.

It's too bad I only can try Infinity, Exile, and MTX at Futureshop.
I also heard Rockford Fosgate but they sounded really crappy. (15" one)
I do not know if it had a problem or not, but when I compared MTX, Exile, Infinity, and RF, MTX sounded like hammer and RF sounded like a holey beach ball.

Anyway, King of Pain, I got one more question.
Do you know what is the maximum and safest wattage I can go upto without changing battery and alternator on my TL? Somebody said that I must change both of them in order to reach more than thousands of watts, but he did not write how much I could go upto without changing them.

Thank you very much and I really appreciate your help.
Enjoy your TL!!

I have the following amps and stuff running off a optima yellow top:

Alpine PDX.1-600 (sub)
Alpine PDX.4-100 (front and rears)
JL Audio E2150 (center channel)
CarPC

So far no problems

The crossover of the sub at 120Hz is actually good, you just need to make sure your Mains go down to 100-120 at the low end. If you want a kick ass home sub there is no better than:

http://www.svsound.com/

These guys rock in subs, pure clean bass, not the boomy unclear stuff of most subs.

Ah thank you very much for the information above

Anyway, I am kinda decided to go with MTX.

Should I get a subwoofer separately or a subwoofer box in an enclosure box?

I am trying to stay within 1200 Watts including subwoofers(dual) and
car speakers.

I look forward to seeing answers. Thank you.
