subwoofer question
subwoofer question
i have two 12" infinity suwoofers running on 150 watts rms each. For my taste they hit pretty hard but what im really looking is that clean punch without a drone. More accurate i guess. so my question is, cause im very new to this stuff . would it be better if i had more power running to them cause they are rated at 300 each. or do i gotta have any speacial adjustments or is that how it is
. when im not listening to the music that loud the bass cant be really heard much and when i turn the bass itself a little bit then somehow is overpowering.
thanx for any input......

Are your subs rated at 300 watts RMS or max? Do you know if your amp stable with a 2ohm load? What is the ohm rating of each sub?
Sure a beefier amp will give you a little more punch with cleaner and tighter bass but you have to consider a few other factors which could also be the cause of a poor bass system. Your wiring setup, settings on the amp and the enclosure that your subs are in. You could have the baddest amp around but if you fail at one of the three other factors, the kid that pulls up next to you his Pyramid amp and and BOSS 10's might be able to smoke your system.
By the way, what brand/model amp are you using?
You definately need an amp with a built in crossover to clean up some of the upper bass. You'll want to set your amp to sound optimum when the radio's bass level is set around the the middle. I have my bass setting at -2. The bass from the after market subs is still clean when you crank up the system. This will also prevent your other speakers from distorting too soon. If you adjust your bass setting above +2, you may get a muddy sound.

One-note bass is usually a symptom of an enclosure that's not matched to the driver(s). If the amp is sending a flat response but the box is booming on one frequency, the box is not flat. Adding more power won't fix that. It will only make it louder. Get yourself a matched enclosure and you should hear a marked improvement in quality.
the box was built custom. it has the exact volume needed. when i listen to rap it sounds great. i get a hard punch in the rear of my seat. mY friend has a similar setup but his box is qlogic box made for 12" subs and its not weged in as mine kinda lose lets say. in my oppinion his is even less acurrate then mine. so rap sounds fine but when i listen to techno trance .... whit that fast switching bass its not clean. better said it gets overpowered by a drone.
