I've owned my 2004 TL w/ Navigation for 2.5 years. About 2-3 times per winter, my car sound system would not work at all. This would only happen on the coldest days (I'm from Chicago). I could change the station and adjust the volume, but no sound would work (including HFL). If I let my car warm up for about 10 minutes and then restarted the car, the sound would work fine. Since this happened so rarely, I never had the dealer check it out.

Just last week the same thing happen, but this was the first time it wasn't freezing cold outside. Also, my sound system didn't work for 5 full days. On the sixth day, I got into my car when leaving work and magically the radio was blasting.

Here is the catch: my extended warranty expires in July. After the recent occurrence of the sound going out for 5 full days, I'm worried this is a bigger issue than my car just not liking the cold. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealer, but of course my sound is working right now. Any advice on how to handle this situation? I really want Acura to replace my sound system prior to the warranty expiring, but it is going to be almost impossible to replicate this issue for the dealer.

Electronics not working in the cold is usually a sign of the components going out (caps mostly). They should just be able to replace the radio. It will likely only get worse.

I have no idea how to convince them that an intermittent problem is real. They are probably not out-of-the-box kind of guys. Just stick with what you want and be firm. If they promise to do anything "later" becuase they cannot find anything wrong today, then get it in writing signed by the stealership GM or owner.
