Thanks RJ...
Anytime. I don't forget your willingness to bring me your headunit and amp to let me troubleshoot. Trust me. I'm there when you're ready to rock.

Eff all those LOC's. Supposedly davidnavone loc's are the bomb...but it sucked and picked up noise.
The simpler the better.

I do believe you.
I know you know your stuff...that's for sure.
I guess biggest problem as you learn stuff is that you don't realize what you need and what you can do without. I'd never soldered before so I was intimidated by the idea of splicing in and turning speaker leads into an RCA end. Now that I know that, I'll probably never use an LOC again. It's crap.

Question New to site and new to Acuras

Hey everyone! I 'm new to the site and so far I like what I see. This is exacly 1 of my problems that I'm trying to fix on my TL.
Bought a 04 TL/nav black/tan interior, excellent condition just needs a few things fixed.
This thread is been a big eye opener and I think it'll be of great help to a lot of people.
I still have a few questions to do with the system hope you guys know the answers, unfortunatly I'm not as knowledgeable as everyone else seems to be.
Is the voice commands and hands free link effected if you cut the factory amp out all together and if you take out the two mics in the head linner?, since the one at the front is the one used for talking during a call?
Will the music still cut out and are you still able to hear the in the front speakers? Do the steering wheel controls still work ?

Thanx in advance for any info you got.

Hello and welcome.
Yes, steering wheel controls/bluetooth all work still using the factory headunit. The amp only amplifies so you CAN take it out of the equation.

About the mics...I haven't removed mine but I think you would lose the speaking aspect of HFL if you removed them. I don't recommend it!

On a side note:

An update I have is that I ran the 6th channel of my matrix mono to a motorcycle amplifier to gain use of the center channel back while still bypassing the factory amp (which is now in my attic). Yay.

Thanx 4 the quick reply, wasn't expecting anyone to answer so soon. You have no idea how much messing around you've saved me and at least now I know it's not just me. Man, I can't believe all you had to go through to finally get this in the bag, kinda makes me feel like a cheater. So thanx 4 all your time to help everyone else, much appreciated.

Oh, before I forget do you or anyone have the wiring diagram for the sound system? I'd just like to know the color coding of the speaker wires and how the system is wired.
once again thank you and keep up the great job.

Not a problem man...
Glad I could help, although originally I was seeking help, it ended up being a sharing of my massive massive pain in the azz, as it unfolded. lol...but yeah, if I can save someone some time, that's great.
I've started noticing others getting alternator whine from their factory amp as well and it seems mostly it's from 04's. I can tell you I'm not willing to spill $240 on a factory crap item that might take a dump on me again in the future.

If you look in the 3G garage (if I remember correctly) you can find a thread that has the wiring colors. I actually have it printed out...it has the wire colors at the headunit/into oem amp/out of oem amp. I keep a cheat sheet in my glove compartment that's been invaluable to me.

I'm with you on dat. Da way I see it is, if I'm gonna spend good $ it better be worth it.
Thanx, I'll look through the Garage, having a print out handy is always a great idea.
