Static from speaker when I use nav
Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone knows a fix for my problem. Whenever I use the navigation, the voice would come out staticky from the speaker in the middle of the dash. Anyone else have or had this problem? What did you do? Thanks guys.

pop in the demo DVD-A disk and see if the center still is staticy? If yes, then its the speaker or the amp. If not, then it's the navi DVD drive. Expect to pony up some cash for that.

OR
use adobeman's software (search for it here) and it converts 2 channel music to 5.1 audio.

You don't happen to have a cell phone charger plugged in under the stereo, do you? I happened to notice this on mine today, since I ride in the with the stereo off while my kids are in the car. I plugged my cell phone in to the charger and I heard a hiss from the center speaker.

I have the exact same problem as you. Like you I bought mine used and do not have a demo DVD-audio disk to test it. My TL is currently in my garage for the winter, but it will be on the road again on April 1st and this problem has been in my mind all winter. Check out my post from a few months ago.

I don't think it is the center speaker as I had an audio guy test it and also right before it completely went I had times where it would come back clear. I am hoping it is the amp because the DVD drive is a lot more expensive. If you find out what the problem is please let me know. I have been looking everywhere on the internet for a solution for the past few months and this is the first post I have seen with someone who has the same issue as me.

i have the exact same problem.
also with an 05 tl navi.
i've checked those connections that i can reach and gain access to (i don't have a garage or access to one), and only hope to check more now that it's getting warmer.

i have the same problem too.. my oem center speaker replacement just came in today. I popped it in and still have the same issue. After reading couple posts above i put the demo disk in and the voice couldn't be any clearer. What does this mean? Is it my DVD drive or my amp? i hope it's not my dvd drive.

Hey guys,
I finally bought a used amp for really cheap and was going to swap it with my original one to see if that was the problem. When I took off the right front kick panel to get to the amp, I noticed there was this black box attached to the amp. There were wires running into the black box and then out from the black box to the amp. The wires into the black box looked like they were coming from the navigation system as they ran along the passenger side straight back along the door. I know that an non-Navi and a Navi TL use the exact same amp so I was questioning from the very beginning if the amp was truly the problem. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this black box is that is attached to the amp. Is this possbily for the navigation system and could this be the part causing the trouble?
Just as an FYI, the used amp I bought did not come with this black box. It did have the clips on it to attach the black box like my original amp.

i called acura and an advisor said that they heard of this problem before and need to have the car in for a diagnostic, since they wouldn't guide me through the phone. Anyone figure this out yet? it's driving me insane! the guidance voice breaks when i use the navigation system. they said that it could be a loose wire somewhere. I did try to run a test with the DVDaudio from acura and the center speaker sounded fine. i hope i solve this problem without bring it in to the dealer, so they can charge me an arm or leg.

yes. i had the static instead of voice prompts, then the drive would constantly re-boot, then it wouldn't boot at all.
i pulled the navi drive from the trunk and shipped it to alpine. for between $1-200, they fixed it and shipped it to me.
re-installed, all of the problems are gone.
my car is an 05 TL 6speed. it seems to me that 05 models are more prone to this.

It's the DVD navi drive. Do like AXX said and call Alpine at 1-888-628-4357. That is the Alpine navigation number. Explain your problem. They should either help you and direct you to the right place from there. For $100-$200, you will have your DVD drive repaired for good as new!
