SSA DCON's

So I just want to put this out there for anyone looking to purchase some subs in the near future.

I recently purchased some 12 inch SSA DCON's and I have to say these are by far the best subs I have had in this class.

They are SQ subs that still can hold up to a lot SPL subs out there. I was recently running JL W3V3's and RE SE-X's. I think these sound better than both of those by far.

The RE subs will hit lower tones but are crap compared to the old SE models. The W3's were nice clean sound, but I think the DCON's are much better and a lot less expensive.

Just thought I would mention it. BTW. I am running 600 rms from a Phoenix Gold Tantrum to dual 12" DCON's in a sealed box at a 4ohm load.

Hopefully I will upgrade to the ICON's in the near future.

Ported box

Need some help here...I was getting a ported box made for me at a local audio shop. I asked the guy to go to SSA's website and make the one that they have a diagram for with all of their specs. Which is this one http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/i...al-ported.html

The guy called me back and said after comparing the measurements from their site to the ones he took of my trunk, that it would not fit since I want the box to be able to fit as far back in the trunk as possible. He also said it is not necessary to put those 45 degree pieces in where the 90 degree angles are.

So my questions are...

1. Is there going to be that much of a difference in sound If he mods the box a little to be able to push the box to the very back of the trunk?

2. SSA's specs have no 90 degree angles in there box. Is this guy just being lazy or is it really not necessary?

3. I won't reveal how much this guy is charging till I get some feedback, but what do you guys think is a far price?

Please chime in. Thanks.

2 of them. Check out the link and you can see the box. The rear of the trunk is only 31 inches. and the box is supposed to be 36 inches wide.

he can cut down on box size if he uses aero ports instead of a slot port

If he makes the box smaller and leaves the port area the same, tuning would increase and it might be peaky.

You don't want to be tuned higher than 33-34 for a daily setup.

30-32 is the sweet spot imo

the 45's in the corner are there for bracing..not that important for a 600w sub setup.

How did it turn out? So running DCONS sealed makes them crap?

I am looking at the DCONS but I have a space issue if I was going to port the box. I checked out the specs and it's just too damn big. You are the only person I could find that ran sealed even though you changed your mind. How big of a difference are you seeing between the 2 boxes?

I want to get 3 12's sealed to go in my TL's back trunk area but all I hear from the SSA forums is that the DCONS are very disappointing sealed saying they don't have good output. Currently I am running 3 Kicker CVR 10's that have good SPL but they lack in the SQ and dirty deep lows. I want these DCON subs to at least maintain or improve the sound pressure the Kickers put out while adding the extra quality sound on top of it.

If you can please tell me that the DCONS are not loud sealed COMPARED to other woofers in the 300W & price range SEALED I would be really grateful.

My impression is they must be doo doo in a sealed box since I can't find anyone doing it.

Thanks!

If space is an issue, use only 2 ported, it will still get louder than 3 sealed.
