Spare interior fuses?
Spare interior fuses?
I hate to start a new thread, but I've been unable to find any answers...
I hard-wired a radar detector today via the "stick a wire into the fuse box under a fuse" method. I'm not a fan of this method (not very clean), but it works and is easy.
I did not want to load up an existing circuit with the radar, but I also did not notice any of the ~30 circuits labeled "spare" in the interior fuse box. I did however, notice that two of the three fuses on the top row, far right were not installed. Everything seemed to work fine on the car (only had this one for a day or so) so I assumed that they were unused circuits. I took one of the spare 7.5 amp fuses from the under-hood fuse box and installed the radar detector on one of the "unused" circuits.
The car acted a bit funny when I started it up, which made me wonder if I engaged something that was not intended to be used on my car by effective turning on a circuit that was not previously used.
Anyone with an 07 or 08 type S know if all of their circuits are used?
Thanks-
Lew

I Think its a grounding issue or loose wiring. Using those two or three spots on the top row is fine. Thats the way I have my RD and Remote signal for amp. Ran into similar problems like you, turned out it was just loose connections.
Let me guess, your Nav screen is not working, and your clock is not working, radio is not working....
I think what I did exactly is use the first open slot thats closest to the door, and you will be fine with that what.

I did not have electrical problems - just ran rough for a few minutes. Was probably just the emissions control feature. Had me a little worried, but seems to run great now. I did find several references to those fuse locations as being used for aftermarket stuff, so I guess they're ok. Wish they'd label as spares though!
