Some tips

Just a few tips I picked up while going through the navigation user manual just now.

For those who use lights during the day (as daytime running lights): The navigation screens have a day/night mode (bright/low) that is linked to the headlights. So if you run your lights during the day, you might have difficulty seeing the navi screen.

In Setup screen 1 under Display, select "Day" mode for the bright daytime screen. Then whenever you want to switch to the "Night" mode, push and hold the joystick for 10 seconds. You will have to manually switch modes like this. (pg 50 in Navi manual)

Another interesting feature (off by default) that I plan to enable and play with is Unverified Routing (pg 59). On Setup screen 4, turning this feature on, can supposedly show you the quickest route in the map database, I'm assuming the catch is that these routes haven't been driven and 'verified' by somebody yet. This explains why I can be on a road and the navi unit SHOWS the road, but the damn computer cant seem to track it (for those of you in the DC area, the canal road/clara burton pkwy is one glaring example)

If anybody else has a useful tip, feel free to chip in!

Quick question actually - Do you guys turn your AC/Heater off before turning off the car?

Rather than fool with the joystick, I just hit the "Max" button on the dash. Same result. Nope, I don't turn the heater, A/C off when exiting the car.

As for turning off the A/C when using it in A/C weather (as in hot), the best thing to do is to turn it off about a mile before reaching your destination, then use a higher fan speed. This will help dry off the evaporator and reduce the chance of mildew forming.. along with the rather unpleasant associated odors. Granted, doing this is not always possible or desirable.
