Skipass and Bass...

I've always heard that giving your subs as much open space as possible is key for the best sound. Why is it that when I open the ski pass my Infinity Kappa in a sealed box sounds pretty much ported and SQ drops? I get that the trunk acts as a second enclosure to extent, but why does just opening a little ski pass give me so much more volume and a SQ is lost? I want a good thump but I hate having to choose between that and SQ. Someone please enlighten me lol

The rear deck is pretty much taken care of. Ive stuffed some stuffed under the rear deck in the trunk and put foam tape between it and the rear window. The only rattles should be the trunk I'd think
