Good find. I'm actually going to be seeing them in Concert this upcoming Friday. Maybe they'll have it onsale at the concert.

Very interesting. Their marketing must have indicated a bunch of [Acura driving] middle aged dudes that still give a crap about sound quality might actually buy DVD-Audio. I actually recently watched "Beyond the Lighted Stage" on Palladia. Pretty interesting back story to the band.

"Moving Pictures", man that was a long time ago. I actually had hair back then! I actually have the vinyl version somewhere in a box.

Give us a review when you get it. I'll probably pick up a copy.

NOTE: I just did the pre-order. Plus, I've got free 2 day shipping on my account too.

Yeah, I was very pleasantly surprised to hear of the DVD-A version coming out in addition to the DVD/BluRay. These were totally remastered from the original master tapes by Alex Lifeson himself and were cut at the full DVD-A capacity of 96kHz/24-bit PCM 5.1 surround sound. This is not an up-sampling recording!!

Kind of fitting since they're playing the entire album live on their current tour (all in honor of the 30 year anniversary). I'm still scouring Ebay for a front row ticket. I'll be at BestBuy on Tuesday, review to follow (road trip on Friday)....

Here's a link to the trailer for the release:

Got the DVD-A today. If you're a RUSH fan and own a 3G TL, then this is a must have. The mixing is excellent! Sounds fantastic on the 5.1 surround sound.

$17.95 at BestBuy. They didn't even have them on floor today. I had to ask and they had to go back to the stock room to find them.

I got mine too (from Amazon). I popped it in yesterday-sounds amazing. I played it on my home theater though. I haven't tried it in the Type S yet....

Did you get the DVD/CD or the DVD-BluRay version? I didn't get the BluRay because it wasn't clear to me that it would play in the TL.

no, sorry for the confusion on that. I did try the BluRay and it was not picking up in the head unit. The accompanying CD sounds amazing though, can't see how it could have sounded better. btw, rush.com has a $1 off coupon for the set at bestbuy

Thanks for confirming that. I wanted the BluRay videos and surround sound, but also wanted full 5.1 in my car. Can't have both, so I decided to go with the DVD-A version. Later on I may also purchase the BluRay version for the house.

Glad you like how the CD sounds in the car, but you know you're not getting the full benefit of the car's sound system without the DVD-A version?

ya, I know... honestly I don't have any DVD-A listening experience...is it really that much better? I've got a good quality aftermarket center speaker that's amp fed. First impressions on the non-DVD-A CD that came with this set tho are way high. I just got a new plasma/blu-ray at home, so I really wanted to go blu-ray for that too.

Question about the Rush DVD-A

So does the DVD - A work on the TL. The marketing material on the new Rush disc was sufficiently vague as to give me doubts that I could get 5.1 sound out of a DVD Audio player.

Thanks, Alan

Sorry it took so long to reply-I got the DVD Audio version. BluRays will not play, unfortunately. Neither will Dual Discs. So it's only DVD Audios. I've got a 7.1 surround sound at home, but my sound system is 1080i, not 1080p. BluRays are the only format able to truly utilize 7.1 surround sound.

Got the DVD-A

But so far, sounds like a good stereo mix, not 5.1 in the TL. It shows up as a DVD-A on the screen (the disk icon is blue), but no 5.1....

I tested it by listening to Tom Sawyer and changing the balance between left / right and front / back. The music sounded the same either way, just half as loud. I would have expected to hear vocals stronger out of center, bass out of one channel, etc....

Wow, I have to respectfully and totally disagree. I think it sounds fantastic in the TL. Does it say DVD-A, Grp I when you play it?

The BluRay is getting great reviews from audiophile sources:

I agree that it sounds good in the TL. All I am saying is that it is a good 2 channel mix, not 5.1. I could be wrong as I don't have a lot of experience with 5.1 and am certainly no audiophile. However, it doesn't sound at all like the demo DVD-A that came with the TL. On that mix, it sounded like the music was originating from different corners of the car, guitars from the front, drums from the back, etc. I can't hear that on the new rush DVD-A.

Here is the marketing notes for the DVD-A:
Both DVD & Blu-ray formats will boast the 5.1 surround sound and stereo audio in 96kHz/24-bit high-resolution audiophile playback which offers 256 times more resolution than CD audio, providing the listener with the closest experience you can have to what the artists hear in the studio. The DVD is playable on both DVD-Audio and DVD-Video players, the latter players will include Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound and PCM stereo playback. Blu-ray discs will also feature DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound in addition to 96kHz/24-bit PCM 5.1 surround sound and stereo.

I assume the latter players refer only to DVD Video players, not DVD-Audio players. I guess that begs the question, Is the 6 disc in dash CD changer a DVD audio player or DVD video player? Maybe I am making the wrong assumption as I assumed it was simply a DVD Audio player.

It's a DVD-Audio player.

Perhaps "latter" references the CD (the former) vs DVD's (the latter)? Even if that is correct, it's poorly written grammatically and they way you have it highlighted (DVD-Audio v DVD-Video) seems to be what it actaully says.

Yeah, that's just a poorly/confusingly worded statement.

On the back of the DVD package it says: "High resolution 5.1 Surround and Stereo for DVD-Audio players.

Also note the information in the table below the previous line. Under DVD-A, it clearly says, "Advanced resolution surround sound 96kHz/24-bit".

It also says the default mode for DVD-A is 5.1 surround. If your players is set to anything than Group I, then the DVD will play only stereo and not 5.1 surround sound.

That's why I asked previously if the player showed "DVD-A, Grp I" when playing the disc. If not, you need to change the player to Grp I.

I will check the settings tomorrow. DVD-A was definitely displayed, but pretty sure not Grp 1.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully that is it.

Made it back into the Billboard 200 rankings

Re-entered the Billboard 200 at #137 two weeks ago. Climbed to #51 for the week of 23 Apr!!

Was #3 in March, 1981 when we were blasting it from our dorm windows of Dunn Hall at Texas A&M...
