replacing stock speakers

I am a noob for car audio and thinking getting replace speakers for my 06 tl
Two very nice brands "focal jm lab" made in france and "mb quart" made in germany,
I never have had a chance to hear them before.
and is anyone using these speakers and or know about them?
can anyone compare these two? quality of sound and fitting into TL or anything else

focal seems more expensive than mb quart,

so what's the best choice for money and quality of sound?

The links dont seem to be working for some reason. I have some experience but I'm not really doing a fair comparison. I originally had mb quart reference premiums 6.5 components in front, 6.5 coax in the rear. They took a crazy beating and sounded great granted this wasn't their highest series the Q series. I think bought a pair of Focal Utopias which are insane. Its not fair to compare them to the premiums, maybe it is to the Q's. The focals were built better, sounded better.. everything.

All said and done, there is really no point in replacing the stock speakers if your not going to install a new amp. You may be able to swap in some 2ohm speakers and get a little nicer sound but the stockers are pretty good in my opinion. If you really want to go to the next level, you will need a 4 channel amp such as a JL 300a4 and a nice set of speakers like the MB's or Focals. You will also need LOC's or a rockford 3sixty to process the sound into RCA inputs for your amplifier. Do a search through the forums, there are a lot of tutorials.

thanks to Knertfied

you made me clear for the car audio system for TL

btw i wanna make one more thing clear that just replacing stock speakers doesn't mean that it will produce the great sound, all i need to do is to change amp for replacing speakers.
am i right?

thank

If you repace the speakers majority of the aftermarket speakers out there are 4ohms unlike the stock 2ohms in the TL 3rd Gen. Which means that if the stock amp is not a 4ohm stable amp you might end up frying the damn thing because then it will have to work harder just to push your aftermarket speakers. Majority of the time it is best to use after market amps along with your aftermarket speakers if you're going to upgrade. That is basicaly why "Knertfied" had said that "...there is really no point in replacing the stock speakers if your not going to install a new amp." And for comparing after market speakers between different brands.... Well my advice to you is that you have to take the time and give a listen at your local shops for the differences because everyone have different taste. Like how different people like to listen to different music. It all depends on your ears and the type of music you listen to.

well i am clear now, the problem of choosing aftermarket speakers, i cannot have a chance to hear them out there , i went to every car audio shop around here(Ann Arbor) and could find any good brand speaker. one that i found for the best was infinity which is still great speakers i think,
but i wanna have better one for my TL, and I tried focal home theater price about $7000 speakers and it was really good sound for every kinds of music but still kinda expensive for car speaker even i can get one from ebay.
so i found one MB quarts that seems nice and reasonable price for car stereo system. i don't still know what do get based on my budget if i need to get aftermarket amp.
btw what amp do you recommend for TL? it seems many people got jl amps for their tl
what's the best choice for amp?

thanks

Again it depends on your budget and what you are really lookin' for in an Amp. For instance: If you want an amp for a sub do you want 4ohm or 2ohm stable amp? There are some that are both 2ohm and 4ohm stable. If you are getting a 2ohm amp and your speakers are 4ohm then that amp will likely to get fried because your speakers have more resistance and impedance making your amp work much harder. I have a PDX-4.100 for my mids and a PDX-1.600 for my sub that I have yet to install but stuck on the remote signal issue . Both amp that I will be running in my system is capable of 2 or 4 ohm setup without the sacrifice of rms power. My advice to you is that when you purchase an amplifier or amplifiers always look at RMS instead of Peak watts.

Wow - $500 retail for each of those amps. Did you consider some type of 5 channel amp, such as a Memphis, or Elemental Designs. The eD NINe.5 has the same specs as both those amps combined into 1 chassis for $450 (before June 1st, $550 after that.) That's what I'm thinking about going with. However, I just saw install pics with amp and it's HUGE!

NINe.5 in a Civic

I may have to reevaluate my amp selection.

The total price including shipping (2nd day air) to Hawaii is $753. I have always had alpine amps and I like their clean power. These two amps "PDX" is their new line and very small in size. Not only that they are stackable. I don't go for the all in one type of amp like the one you mention for one is because of their size. And two is that those type of amps tend to heat up much more then the normal amps which in time they tend to burn out. Just my prefference. My friend has a PDX amp and I love how small they are and it seems that they don't even really heat up as much as I had expected even after running it hard for a 45 minute drive. Felt the amp and it wasn't even that hot. For such a small amp I was sold. hahaah. Oh wells... Each to his own I suppose.

I personally have an Elemental Designs (ED) Nine.1 for my subs and a PDX4.150 for my midrange & Tweets... I must say that both are great amps... the ED amp is a monster... I push my subs to the limit and hardly no heat... the PDX is absolutely great, clean power and tiny design... you really can't go wrong with either one... if size matters then get the PDX...

ED also gives you a 5 year warranty... which is crazy... and their support is exceptional.

The Alpine PDX line is pretty slick. They are all class D amps. Class D amps are known for better efficiency (hence the small package), and they've been used for sub amps for awhile now. They haven't been as popular for mid-range speakers, since it's difficult to build one that sounds as good as the class AB. The technology is getting pretty good now, so I won't be surprised if class D completely replaces AB designs.

I'm a big fan of Alpine amps and just picked up a pair for my new setup. I went with the tried and true V12 lineup and got the MRP-M650 (Class D) for the sub and MRP-F450 (Class AB) for the rest.

focal K2P

I just replaced the craptacular stock speakers in my 04 TL with some really sweet Focal K2P's. I thought the sound would improve dramatically but it didn't. They sound the same. I got a Rockford 3sixty and i wired it up from the head unit outputs (like the directions said) and the sound is just as bad as it did before. I emailed a tech at Rockford and he said to rewire it using the outputs of the stock amp and REINSTALL THE STOCK AMP. This totally screwed me up because the DSP is in the stock amp location. And my super sweet Focal separates have a very large amount of engine noise and hiss. I'm using a Alpine 4/100 PDX and a 500\1 for my JL sub. Needless to say I'm kinda pissed. i think i'm going to have to re ground the battery as well as the alternator...... but if anybody else has some input i will entertain any idea at this point. thanks.
