Replacing Speakers in 2006 TL

Okay, so I have a Manual 2006 TL. My warranty is up, so I can't keep taking the car to the dealer to fix the rattles. In short, the stereo STINKS! And I am fed up with it. It's time to make some changes. Just so you know, I usually listen at about Volume 35, with Bass -1, Treble +6, Center +5 Sub 0.

I know alot of you will tell me to put an amp, etc., etc.

I want to start small. I want to replace JUST the fronts and get something that sounds louder, cleaner, and better WITHOUT an amp. I want LOUDER and CLEANER. I max out the head unit sometimes and I can barely hear it with windows open.

What speakers would you guys reccomend? Also, I will do the install myself, so what will I need for the install? Lastly, can I put coaxial speakers in there, and will the head unit send the full frequency range, or are the fronts just recieving the mids, while the tweets are getting the highs?

THANKS!!!

Let the money spending and mods begin...

Try posting this in the Audio forum.

Also, why do you set your sub to 0? Subs add richness and depth to the music, no matter what kind of music you listen to. Try taking the volume down a bit. After 30-32, the louder it gets the more distortion you will hear.

I used components in my doors but you can probably get something less expensive like infinity kappas or polk db series.

What kind of components did you use?

Did you amp them?

If not, did you use the crossover that came with the new speakers, or did you use the feed straight from the head unit for the woofer, and the existing feed for the tweets?

Thanks!

I used 6 1/2 Polk Momo MMC6500s for my front stage. They take perfect care of my mids and highs, and they take a pounding without getting distorted. Yes I amped them - 150w RMS each. I used the crossovers that came with them. Check my profile albums for pics.

For the rear fill I used 6 1/2 Polk DB651s on the rear deck. I also removed the factory sub and placed a box in the trunk with a 12" JL w6.

If you really want good sound, use 2 amps minimum, 1 for the sub and 1 for the main speakers. And get yourself a sound processor and stick it between the factory amp and the aftermarket amps. These devices create miracles with the dirty sound that comes out of the factory head unit.

I originally didn't want to do all of this, but I don't regret my choice one bit. My TL sounds like a high quality sound studio.

There are plenty of threads that talk about what choices are best. Do a search or browse through the Audio, Bluetooth and Electronics forum.
