Replacing HFL of 3G with 4G?

Like most of you 3G TL owners, my HFL has failed (Booting up)

I've tried the baking and re-baking, fuses, etc with only short and temporary success.

So now comes the times to get a new replacement unit.

While researching online for a replacement unit, i bumped into a 4G TL module and noticed that the connector (female) is the same as the 3G one.

Here's a pic, the one in my hand is my 3G module, the one on the screen is the 4G

Has anyone tried installing a 4G module into our 3G? Any thoughts?

Im surprised this post is not getting more attention than this... you guys know that if it works we would be able to play music and keep the full phone integration.
Im hesitant to buy one for 150$ just to try... i was going to try it using my brothers 4G but someone said the module is behind the audio consol? Which would make it a bigger job than my bro would allow....

I doubt it's that simple of an swap. Be a guinea pig for us, try it, and you can be forever engrained within the realms of Acurazine history as the guy who added OEM integration of music to the 3G TL!

just start taking the dash apart until you find something that looks like it and has the same connector!

if 04-06 connector wiring is different than 07-08 module then I would say 98% chance its not directly plug and play. On a bright side if you could get it to work then Bluetooth Audio streaming is now build in

He has a 07/08 so he found out the connector is the same as the 4G.

I still have doubts its plug and play, though.

OP best bet is to find a use one from a junkyard or make the attempt and remove the one from your brother's TL. Don't go by what someone said, find out exactly. GL

I am so tempted to this but its one expensive trial.

How about you guys chip-in, and if everything works out, i'll refund you all, otherwise i'll try to return it and if that works i'll refund you as well?

I found one for ~100$ on ebay shipped.
If 3-4 of you send me 10-20$ each, i'll pay for half of the cost?

Who's in? paypal mazen_massab@hotmail.com

instead of gambling, let me check the wiring schematics first.

almost always, things are integrated with other components.

At a quick glance, the HFL communication wiring seems similar. Some are the same, some are reversed pinning I believe.

As for the music portion, I doubt you'll get it to work.
Everything integrates with the 4G audio headunit.

Bit confused... As usual?

The HFL goes through the audio system so why wouldnt it work? May need to reverse a couple wires, no?
