Hello TL lovers!!!

This Thanksgiving i want to buy a subwoofer that will replace my factory one. I don't really want to spend lots of money on new AMP+box and all the wiring. I just want to buy a decent sub that can perform very good in Free Air; also sub that will work fine with factory AMP. If anyone ever done this - please reply to this post and leave some comments.

I don't really need BIG ASS BOOMING SUB in my car, but a nice "acoustic" sub that will replace the "paper" cheap sub that Acura has installed. Also one that can put some nice bass.(not BOOMING ones)

Again, if anyone done this before and has a new sub in their cars - please post what sub you installed and how much it costs!

A replacement sub that works with the factory amp, fits in the factory hole, and sounds good free air is going to be about impossible to find. There are many threads on here and I believe they all resulted in failure.

I believe the JL audio 8W3 would drop in the hole but it won't sound right free air and I've heard they're going to stop making it. Some have used the Infinity bass link and seem to like it. I've never heard it but it sounds like a great solution for someone who wants a little extra bass with the sub and amp contained in one unit that's easily removable.

Would it be possible to cut out the rear deck to allow for a larger opeing to use another free air?

 

Part of the problem is rear deck rattles. They're bad enough with the stock sub but add an aftermarket with double the output and it's just going to get worse.

I had that problem when stock. Then I went to two 12s facing the trunk lid and had even more of a problem. I spent a couple years trying to fix old rattles and new ones that developed and a ton of money on dynamat. Now they face forward.

Quite honestly, I believe the only correct way of doing a sub is sealed from the trunk and facing toward the front of the car. No rattles at all no matter how loud I have them and the SQ improved tremendously. The sound needs to come from the opening between the rear seats, not from under the deck cover.
