thats a great question. I have a 2004 tl with only 49,000 miles...I do not use my HFL...but it is bad and killing my battery. I disconnected it and removed my Module...still killing battery every 20 hours or less now. Do i need to disconnect the Delay box behind my Factory NAVI unit aswell?...This is starting to become a BIG PAIN IN THE ASSS!

My 04 TL HFL failed too and I have had battery issues. I just keep the battery on a trickle charger now...not ready for a new car...just bought an F150 Raptor. Off to the junk yard.... 112K and this is my 1st issue with the car - that's not bad but I guess I'm spoiled - this is one item that should be reliable and Acura is not charging a reasonable price for a replacement module...$470? Really? even $200 seems high. There is a thread that explains a compnent level repair where you replace a capacitor on the bluetooth module board with success:
https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/bluetooth-fails-792642/

There is a picture link in post #11 of the thread.

Smile some what the same problem

Hey Guys, new to AZine and its a great site.

The problem that I am having with my 05 TL is similar, I don't know which to replace but the voice command will not recognize any commands nor would the handsfreelink pair any phone I try. Do I need to replace the Bluetooth module or the handsfreelink module, or are they both the same thing?? any in-site would be appreciated.

Welcome to AZ, I'm also new as well. There many sites out there but here is one.

hondapartsunlimited_dot_com

It's a grip to replace, around 470 bux. Dealerships are asking 700 w/ labor. Crazy if you ask me just for bluetooth. Maybe back in 2004 but not today with all the bluetooth options out there now. Mine isn't working either, just the HFL not pairing with any phones though. Tried taking it apart and cleaning it up, was working for a little but went dead. Panels looks fine and new so I'm not sure why it isn't working. Voice commands still works fine. I believe they are two different system. HFL and bluetooth module are the same thing though. I'm planning on replacing mines the ghetto way though, don't ask me how but I will.

I had the dealer disconnect my bluetooth after it constantly kept draining my battery. A drained battery can also be bad on other parts like the tranny, and alternator. I normally let the car idle for ~10 minute before driving to help protect the tranny from damage due to a weak battery.

I was psyched when I saw this, but unfortunately it's still 700+ for 05-08 TLs.

Not so papa... I just bought a new module on Parts.com for $166 for my 2006 TL. Apparently, with all the complaining, they found a new way to manufacture it for far less. I'll keep everybody posted on how it works. I'll probably receive it in about a week.

Let us know how it goes please $200 sounds so much better than $800

I am very interested to hear how it works out (the parts.com) Blue Tooth HFL that you ordered. I have a 2004 TL that has all the problems described (wont pair, lost phonebook, etc etc).

The parts.com site does not list anything for the 2004 TL though I bet the part listed for the 05-06 will work just fine.

I am waiting on Acura Canada to see if they will do anything for me and then i will make my decision. I sure don't want to pay $804 CAD for the HFL UNET p/n 04397-SEP-305ZA and $198 CAD for install..... This should not be a part that fails.

I just ordered one off Oemacuraparts.com for $135 and it even looks like on Acura's own e-store it's only $180. Looks promising. I'll report back once mine comes in as well.

That's great news, I might be searching the wrong part. What's the part number you ordered? I also have an 06 TL.

This is what I ordered. http://www.oemacuraparts.com/acura/t...p-a02za-acura/

It looks like its the same part no matter what year. That's the grey one, obviously.

Check that, it looks like I may have been wrong about it being the same part for all years. Just put in your info and look for the "Interior Light" component. Once it brings up in that parts list, and you can pick your color.

I am about to buy the part for my 2005 Acura TL. Can someone let me know if they have had any luck with replacing the unit? I was going to get mine off parts.com or oemacuraparts.com. Looks like they are around $170 on both sites. My unit just stopped pairing with phones and I am definitely not paying the $1,200 the dealer quoted me.

fyi. My new part from Parts.com seems to be working fine. Only issue is that the plastic seems to rub on something and make noise. Anybody have this problem? Is it because I have the nuts on too loose or too tight?

Just ordered mine from oemacuraparts.com, it's a few dollars cheaper after shipping. I'll report back on my install once the part comes in.

OK, got the part in last night, installed and paired 2 phones to it. Super easy install. All is well now, HFL working again! Thanks ditzpro for bringing the news of the price drop to this thread!

I took my '06 3G to the dealer yesterday because my HFL stopped working. The S/A thought I was having an issue with my phone, but I explained that it wouldn't respond at all. The S/A called to say that the techs indeed found that the HFL unit to be unresponsive. They didn't have a replacement in stock, so I'm still in the loaner ('11 4G TL Tech).

The S/A had said that the job would cost $400 for a new unit installed, and that the part is significantly more expensive on UA7 (and later) TLs. When I dropped off my car, I had forgotten to tell the S/A that I have AcuraCare. He called me back and verified that AcuraCare would cover the new HFL unit. Hopefully, I'll get my car back today.

any more updates from the guys that have replaced the unit?

Im having the same issue the steering wheel controls are not working and my battery keeps dying. I also get no response from the voice commands aka the "lady talking" lol.

so my question is, do i just need to replace the hfl module that's by the sunroof button? or is there anything else that i need to replace?

what the lowest price people are getting these for?
btw my car is an 05 with navi, if that matters.

Yes; see https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=792642&page=4 starting with post 212.
Everything works great with my HFL now after paying @ $180 and putting in less than 15 mins of work.

See post 47 for the link to the Acrobat ".pdf" file of the TSB which shows pictures of some of the disassembly, or see post 221 for a description of the disassembly.
It would be really difficult to crack any of the plastic.

^ thanx but i have one more question, by replacing the module did it also bring back the voice commands? ex. when you push the buttons on the steering wheel behind the bluetooth buttons and say "radio on" or "fan speed 1"
or is that what you meant by "Everything works great with my HFL now after paying @ $180 and putting in less than 15 mins of work"?

The Navi voice commands are a separate system from the HFL.
Only the HFL, i.e. phone functions, in my TL went wonky.

Replacement HFL bad?

Bought replacement HFL for my 2005 mdx with navi on ebay. Seemed to boot up ok. Cleared HFL and tried to pair with iPhone 4gs but my phone can't find HFL in discovery mode. Signal strength and phone icons show on radio even though no phone is paired. Why would phone icon show when nothing is paired. Do I need to reset the module somehow. Tough clearing HFL would do it

Took my HFL apart by following the TSB, mine qualified for the free replacement after i called HFL hotline and got my unit tested for battery drain, Acura is taking care of the everything and should have approval in a few days...

Interesting. How do we know if ours qualifies? What is the HFL hotline. I have mine sitting next to me waiting for capacitors.

Thanks

Has anyone had success requesting "goodwill consideration" from their Acura dealership prior to them replacing the HFL?

I am a complete n00b. Is there a step by step guide on how to disable the HFL? My battery has been draining and I am now convinced that my handsfree is the problem. Mine stopped working right after the warranty expired and can't afford to replace it at this time.

Thanks for helping.

PS: I have a 2005 TL.

Here's how to get to it, just unplugging it would suffice I would certainly imagine. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/hfl-module-replacement-06-tl-843512/

Okay so I am having issues with battery dieing within 2-3 days without driving it. Reading all the post about changing the HFL(39770-SEP-A02ZA) from the sun roof panel or leaving it unplugged would fix the battery drain? Have their been any updates if there is recalls or HFL replacing the unit since its draining the battery.

I have an 2005 with subs that remote wires are connected with existing sub remote wire, could that be the cause too because I read somewhere it could be it if you connect the after sub market wires to the stock sub wires.

Any help would be great thanks. Right now car battery is dead.

Acura should be drawn and quartered for that little piece of brilliant engineering. DBS this morning and I am putting a for sale sing in the pig today. I have zero tolerance for stupid crap like that. I never used the HF anyway and I really need new shocks more than I need to have to replace a module for a feature I don't even use. Cheapest replacement part is $250. Going back to my trusty Fords. Last import I will ever own.

Hello. I have my new module, but I can't figure out how to pry the plastic cover open. There's a link above that just says to use a butter knife, but I can't even fit a credit card in there. How would a butter knife fit? I don't want to crack the plastic. Any suggestions?

1) Use a thin knife or feeler gauge blade to pop out the sunroof switch, which can then be disconnected from its multi-pin connector.
2) Then use your fingers to grab the rear of the hole left by the sunroof switch and just pull down to remove the overhead console containing the map lights, switch and Homelink before unplugging it from the multi-pin connector.
3) That exposes the four 8 mm bolts holding the HFL bezel...

Welcome to AZ.
