Renew XM Radio for $77 for 12 months (Part 4). See sticky for Part 5.

I actually received a flyer in the mail from XM stating I could receive the 1 year subscription at $77 and no installation costs. No promo code on the flyer.
My only issue with XM was the representative. She spoke too fast and softly, even after I told her 3 times I could not hear her or understand what she was saying. Otherwise it was painless.

My 3 month trial expires in a few days so I called them to see what they could do for me on price. The rep quoted $142 a year for a one year committment. Told her I wasn't going to re-activate at that price. She said she wasn't authorized to offer anything else. I told her to have a nice day and hung up.
We'll see what they offer me after the trial expires.

I keep repeating myself here......
This is NOT an automatic promotion. You are provided a script because that is what works.
When you make up your own procedure, you're on your own. It seldom works.

Well, I had to digress a bit from the script. I noticed in previous posts that the zwinback promo code wasn't always working. So, I saw the $38.85 charge on my Visa this morning, called XM and asked what period of time it was for.
The CSR said for 3 months, and I said that was too much and I wanted to cancel. Tranferred to the "cancellation department", which I suspect is just another CSR who specializes in retention.
She offered me $119, and I said while I was on hold I heard an advertisement for a free radio and $77 a year. She said that would be a second radio. I said, well, I can't understand why I have to pay $119 when you DO have a $77 annual plan; I want that with my existing radio, please.
She gave it to me, and added another $40 to my Visa. This is even better than the last go-round, because they only gave me the good price for 6 months.
Also, she said not to tell anyone about it!! They may be wise to this thread??????

No Problems Whatsoever...
I called yesterday to renew my XM service at the rate of $77 for the second time. All they asked for was my radio ID and my CC information. The whole thing was a piece of cake. I guess I got lucky. I have a friend who wants to do this too but he is paying on a monthly basis. Can he call them and get this promotion as well?

3 month trial ended 12/28, they called me and offered $5/mo for 3 months...i asked for that for one year and was laughed at. called today and was told $140 was the best offer, i laughed then called back with the script and in seconds i'm $77 poorer.
#369
Since this promo is a bit "old" I called today, said I didn't renew cause it's too expensive, I said I talked with a friend who recently got in on a $77 promotion and wondered if I could get the same. He asked if there was a promo code and I said the Zwinback and bada bing, bada boom, got me a year at $77. YMMV.

still works
Just got a renewal flyer on my wife's Accord, offering the std 12.95/mo rate with discounts for multi-year renewal. I called the 800 number and asked for the $77 rate - sales rep didn't hesitate a second. I asked if I could renew my daughter's while I had her on the phone and get the same rate - she said "sure". So I pushed the envelope a bit and asked about the INNO. Oops - the $77 rate is only for renewals of vehicles with factory XM - no good on consumer radios. But she did renew it for the family plan, works out to 83.88 a year, so it wasn't too painful.
Hopefully, it'll work again when I have to renew my TL-S in March.

I just called in to cancel my account and received a different discount from the usual $77 for 12. I only got a 3 month extension but for $4.99 a month rather than the $6.41 for the year contract. Not a bad deal except I'll have to call back in after 2 1/2 months.

I called a week before my trial subscription was going to end. Told the operator that I had received a flyer with an advertised rate of $77.00 for the year and that I wanted to take advantage of that. After that, no problem. I was done within 5 minutes at the $77.00 rate, they did not ask for any type of promotion code. Thanks to whoever started this thread, you saved me some cash!

I waited till my subscription ran out and then used the script.
I waited until the charge for the regular $144 a year showed up, but what they did is charge me the $38 which used to be for 6 months at last renewal, but now was for 3 months. Looks the same, and if I wasn't waiting for the charge, I would not have known for 3 months that it was actually for half the time I expected.
I called them the day the charge came through on my credit card, and got the $77 deal.

2nd time doing this. At first the rep was being persistent that I can only get that offer one time. I told him well if I cannot get it again I cant see myself paying 12.95 for the service. Then he countered with a 9.99 a month deal. I was like look if I cannot the same deal I want to cancel. I said I do not need XM that bad so it is not a big deal to me to cancel. Then he put me on hold and came back to say his supervisor approved $77 deal for one more year.

From what I've gathered, if the merge happense, it will occur about mid-year.
They will still have separate service fro XM and Sirius receivers.
They will also have receivers that will be able to utilize both services.
Thinking of dumping some $$$ into SIRI.

First, my thanks to having this forum. My 3 month trial subscription is about to end. I called the number and said I just wanted to check to make sure my credit card would not be charged. The man asked why, I said I did not want to pay the high rate and have my card charged.
I told him that a friend at work had gotten the $77 per year rate. He said he could offer that to me. Even got the special $3.99 per month Nav Traffic. He said you have to ask for the rate!
Anyway, thanks again to all who have posted. You guys have saved me some money!!

Just signed up for the $77 deal without having to use the script. My 3 month was expiring in 3 days and XM called me. They originally offered the full price deal but I told them that I had heard about the $77 deal and the customer service rep agreed to it. That was it. Real sweet and appreciate all the post help with this topic.

4th year in a row that it worked. They will try to tell you no but just tell them you're going to cancel and they will give it to you. Over the course of four years, AcuraZine has saved me well over $200!

Stubborn or just non-conformist?

I get tired of repeating this over and over again.
Some folks just don't want to read the whole thread (let alone all four parts) and I guess I can't blame them.
But, you're right. This is not a publicized "promotion" but a last-chance effort to get old customers back into the fold.
As soon as XM determines that it is no longer a secret, they are liable to kill it.
So, folks: be considerate of your fellow members. Please

Got my "Automatic Renewal" letter today from XM
Yes, it happens to Mega Mods also.
The letter was going to auto renew me on my credit card for $38.85 per quarter.
I called the number in the letter (800-967-2346) to cancel the service. The first CSR told me he had to transfer me to the "cancellation department" (really the "retention squad"). There, they asked why.
I told them it was too expensive. He first offered me a 20% discounted rate. I said, "Still too expensive".
He said, "Hmm. Let me check your records here. I see you had the half-price deal last year. I can offer you that deal for $77 for the year."
I said, "Alright, you silver-tongued devil. You've talked me into it!"
I was prepared (per my instructions here) to actually cancel and then call after my Feb 15th renewal date and use the script, if necessary. It wasn't.
This is my 4th year at $77.

I would try that first. Be sure and have your radio ID number handy when you call. You can get it on Channel 0 on the radio. Write it down.
You can adapt the script for your situation. You can say that the seller of the car received a flyer for a promotional rate of $77 and you would like to take advantage of that if you could.
If they ask you for a promotion code (not the radio code), pretend you are looking for the flyer but can't put your hands on it ... forgot where you put it... etc. They will usually give up and say OK.
If you don't succeed on the first call. Try, try again. You'll get a different person.
Good luck.

XM Radio
Hi Guys,
Just to share the joy that I called XM today to update my credit card information - told them I had received a flyer in the mail a while back and wanted to update my subsciption to the $77.00 yearly rate plan that had been offered. The guy said 'sure - no problem' and that was it! I had the script in front of me but didn't need it. My 2nd vehicle stays at the $6.95 per month. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
