Remote starter

I have an '05 TL and want to put a remote starter on it?
The manual says not to put a starter on the car cause it will affect the navigation...has anyone done so? and has it affected anything?

thanks

Thats interesting. In the owner book it says that?
I am guessing that the GPS goes idle if you dont push the map button after startup-
is that correct on your year?
That requires pushing a few buttons to get it going again and ready to work,
and may be the problen Acura mentions.
Technology has come a long way in the years since these manuals were written.
Its worth a chat with the Parts Manager at the dealer- ask if they sell a remote start for your car

I went to the dealer for my "FREE OIL CHANGE" on Saturday and they quoted me $530 for an alarm and remote start on my 2007 tl-s 6MT.

Which one did you get? I'm thinking about it.

I knew places did 6MT, but I didn't know the dealer did it. I thought it was illegal.

I never heard of a remote start on an MT car

Does anyone know anything about this? How do they defeat the clutch safety switch? How do they prevent a user from attempting to start the car if it's left in gear? These obstacles seem like something that would be beyond the aftermarket to tackle. I also never heard of anyone offering a factory system on an MT car. I'd be interested in hearing more about it, just to satisfy my curiosity.

If you get it done at the dealer they should have a safety switch that will prevent the car from starting when it is in gear.

NO dealer install remote starter on MT. There are no safety switch install by any mean. It can be done from local shop but you have to sign any liabilty paper.

I've had my Viper remote installed for more than 2 months and I have not encountered any problems. Your manual may reference not installing a remote starter because it may interfere with the nav system. I mentioned this to the person who installed the device and he acknowledged this fact and indicated that he would make certain the tech was aware of this.

Wrong. Compustar makes autostarts specifically for MT. They don't use a safety switch. Basically, the remote start can't be activated unless the e-brake is set and the car is in neutral before you shut it off. Check it out on their website.

Yes, there are definitely 6MT remote start systems out there. I know of a place in Rockville that will install it. But there is no way the dealer is going to install it due to the liability issue.

Ive got a 6 spd, with the clifford avantguard 5.1, You have to purchase a remote start that is only for manual transmissions. and you have to put it in ready mode in order for it to remotely start up. this means, leaving the car while running, arming and automatically shutting off. by doing this, there is no doubt the car is in neutral. however, if you open a door, trunk or hood, it kicks it out of ready mode (just in case the shifter is accidently put in gear) and you will not be able to start it. you would then have to start it up manually and get it into ready mode again.
