Rear Deck Removal-Speakers

for those of you that have replaced your speakers with aftermarket ones and/or just took the sub wires with an LOC, how hard was it to take apart the rear of your car????

I look at how nice this is and i think, "man, i really don't want to screw this up". Ron A has helped out a ton with all of his shop manual pics, but i wanted to get some feedback from the users who did this. How long does it take to disassemble as well???? Thanks.

What are you trying to do? If you are just trying to tap into the subwoofer line to add a sub and plan to leave the stock sub in place, and do not plan to do anything with the rear speakers, you can do this without removing the rear deck shelf...you just need to remove the rear deck trunk liner (trunk access) and you'll be able to reach the subwoofer connector...then tap into sub line

But if you want to remove the sub and/or rear speakers, only way to remove them is by removing the deck shelf..because the unscrew from the top..this is actually not that difficult....

1) Remove the rear seat (bottom)..there are two clips
2) Remove the rear seat - back (two bolts hidden behind the seat back just below the headrest and two bolts on the bottom... (move the seat belt to the side to free from seat)
3) remove the rear panels where the side curtain airbags are located (panel remover or pull it out..first remove the side curtain airbag tab to make it easier) This will make it easier for the rear deck shelf to come out.
4) The front of the shelf is pressed in, so lift it up and you'll feel it pop out...the rest of it is securede by panel clips (same as the ones for the side panels out you just took out)..wiggle it loose, list slightly and gently, and pull out..

Sorry, wifey has the car at her work right now, otherwise I would have posted some pics to help visualize..maybe someone else can complement with pics

The rear is a breeze...do it once and you won't be hesitant to do it again Check out the scans from the manual to know where every bolt is. For the rear deck, I got underneath and squeezed the bottoms of the clips together so as not to break them when lifting up the rear deck.
