Rear Deck Rattle a thing of the past

well I had my last set up with a 10w7 forward facing threw the skee hole in 2 cubic foot box tuned to 34hz ported up through the rear deck(factory sub location) using a aero port and it was nice but didnt give me the low end i wanted. So i build a few test boxes and found porting to the side yield better results so i ended up a 2.2 cubic foot box at 30hz ported to the side and it kills the lows like i wanted but caused massive rear deck rattle. so i tackled that today and after 2 boxes of Dynamat extreme its gone.

A MDF cut out was used and cover up the factory sub hole and covered.

rear deck done (yes i still have the factory speakers in the rear as fill only. I see no point in wasting money on rear speakers in any car when you sit up front and with a good front stage you wont even hear them)

Ive also found that the middle seat belt bracket is very noisy and will vibrate a lot. There is a small peace of metal on it that i used a uni-bit and drilled a hole though and then used a self-tapping screw and screwed it down and helped a lot.

The box the front and rear is covered in black suede and i will start on the rear beauty panel next week and will have pics up soon.

progress pics of my Front doors before my new 3 way set goes in

about that belt, i think you just fucked it up, it probably either does not lock anymore (ie: passenger keeps going foward cause it does not lock up in an accident) or the belt stays locked the whole time, so you cannot even pull it out
so personally i rather see that belt COMPLETELY taken out of the car, so it cannot be accidentally used, in the least bit

otherwise

You should seal off the box from the trunk...

The seatbelt isn't broken, in the time I've had my car I've never had anyone in my backseat minus my god daughter. The seatbelts have ball bearing in the retract mechanism which rattle with extreme bass. My mazdaspeed protege and my Accord have and make the same noise.

The back is sealed, it's just that the port is on the side of the box so that's why there is room on the side so to not block the port. Ill take better and more pics asap

it might also be the locking mechanism for when you roll over the car though (if you pull the retracter out and flip it over, the belt should be locked; it is designed in "operating angle")

and you obviously say that multiple cars of yours have made the same sound, so more then likely there is a reason for that "ball" being so loose in there (there are NO forces acting on it other then gravity and momentum)

Nice

You know, you could fully seal it off if you go with an aero port.

Acura and other car manufacturers only use one bolt to hold in the rear middle seat belt, allowing the other end to just dangle. if you take your rear deck apart and use the palm of your hand and hit against the rear decks bare frame most of the noise you will get will be from the belt mechanism.

Had a JBL set recently got a Esotec 2 way components but trying to piece together a 3 way set up front, just trying to save to get the mid range drivers alone.

btw you made it sound at first, i thought you had actually put a screw into the seatbelt mechanism itself, and not just the "package shelf" (which is actually the proper name ), and the belt's mounting flange

I know that your putting the speaker facing forward but jus a fyi, I have the speaker facing towards the back, and done all the dynamat jus like you have done. Too completely stock the rattling with the rear deck i stuffed a .5 inch piece of foam under the rear deck and all the rattles are completely gone.

Wouldn't sealing the trunk and having one port facing up into the back glass be even louder?

I have the tab covered in 2 inches of dynomat so it's not hitting any metal, the entire assembly wrapped once in it,and the whole area covered in dynomat so no metal there either.

Can't take the seat belt out alone. It's attached at the bottom to the passenger rear seat belt.

I was unable to drill to add a screw onto the metal tab due to weird angle. I'm going to cover the area under the seat belt retractor tomorrow.

Any suggestions or maybe tighten the tension mechinism?
