Rear Deck rattle

Hey, I rarely post on here, but been a member for a bit and got a lot of good information. Thank you. Anyways, I know a lot of people have have the rear deck sub rattle issue and some people have got the fix but here is my problem. It's been to Acura 3 times for this issue, (Silverhill Acura in Calgary), who in my opinion do a fine job, they have done everything they could for me, but as far as this issue stands, they do not have a fix for this (Cause Acura has no solutions). Not being their fault,(Silverhill) but this is shit. I have owned this car since day one, it's a 2006. This problem has been an ongoing issue since 2004, is there still no fix for this? I'm just going to watch my wording right now, but understand, i'm pissed, when you spend this much on a car, (you guys in the USA paid a lot less than the $45000 that I paid), you expect a bit more. My 1997 Acura 1.6 EL (not a USA car but a civic equvilent) has better sound dampening (if you must call it that) than my TL. Quality is lacking somewhere. So chime in and please let me know if you have the same issue. Fuck this, I would've spent a lot less on some shitbox if I knew i'd have these issues.

It's really simple...turn on a song you know rattles a ton, a turn it up! Listen from the back seat and trunk to find out where it's coming from. I had a bad rattle in my '04 but i just found that it was the bottom of the rear window hitting the rear deck. I put a few tissues down there between it and wala! Sometimes it's just better to do certain things yourself

I had that same problem. All I did was just throw several of the shop rags that come in the packs from Autozone. Roll them up and put one in each corner where the window meets the pillar and deck. then the third directly in the middle. Sounds great, no rattle and cant tell that they are there.

same issue here, each time I take it in they "fix" it with foam strips, and about every other oil change they get to "fix" it again.....its bullshit, my Camaro's t-tops rattle less than this damn audio system.

Quasi, welcome to Acurazine. I also had the same problem with mine. I took it to the dealership, who knew all about this and fixed it by tightening the seat belt bolts.

Hey, i'm well aware that we could fix the problem on our own, but the point i was making if they know that this is an issue, why don't they acknowledge it, or why can they not fix it? I think that is crap. I have those same foam tapes that they put in my car too. I guess when I get it back, i'll look into it and fix it myself.

Welcome to the Acura customer service world. Acura is well known for denying well known issues. Some dealers will admit to certain problems and the dealer down the street from them will act like they've never seen it before.

Not only do you have the rattles but you have more serious issues such as prematurely cracking compliance bushings, 5at failures that only require a different fluid and pressure switches to be reliable, cracking dashboards, etc.

I wish you the best of luck but I have to point out that the rattle issue has been well known since '04 by the dealers. It's not a matter of if they know about it, it's a matter of them admitting it.

I fixed my rattles in 10 minutes. I almost took it in just to make a point but I figure they would screw something else up in the process. Same with the pressure switches and compliance bushings. Dash looks like it may crack soon. I'm kind of torn about fighting with them since it is a 5 year old car now. I don't expect it to be perfect forever.

If the rattle has been bothering you so much, why not spend the ten minutes it takes to fix it yourself? Making 3 trips to the dealership is pretty silly. I understand you're trying to make a point, but this is a rattle you're talking about...it's far from something serious, which is probably why Acura hasn't done anything about it. Acura isn't the holy grail when it comes to service and fixing issues (or any other manufacturer for that matter). I don't let Acura touch my car unless it's something I absolutely cannot fix myself.

I'd recommend using felt to remedy the issue rather than something I wipe my boogers on, but that's just me.

+1

This is why it's better to do it yourself. There are more than one cause of the rear deck rattle and locating and fixing it are best done yourself; you know the old saying, "if you want it done right..."

For what ever help it might be, in my '08 any rattle I had was caused by the plastic rear deck cover vibrating against the metal deck. I fixed this with adhesive backed felt stuck to the deck cover but I had also first damped the metal with Damplifier. The '08 also has a pad under and around the middle seatbelt retraction mechanism. I have also seen a TSB for early models that put a better gasket under the sub. You just have to listen and decide where to start; you might need to do all of the above but you will get the rattle tamed.

I know it's frustrating to have to go through this on a pricey car but for me it was just easier to do it myself then keep hassling with the dealership; of course I did an extensive audio install but you get the idea.

Good Luck.
