Radio Preset Issue

2008 Acura TL - Base model, no navi

Something weird happened this morning. I inserted the key in the ignition, and turned on the radio and all of my presets for radio stations and EQ were all gone. Both Key 1 and 2 have their own settings, but it wasn't even Key 2 setting. It was back to factory default. Then I turned the car off, removed the key, re-inserted the key, and started the car, all my settings were back. This is the first time, and hopefully the last, that this has happened. Anyone have something similar happen to them? Any re-occurrences and ideas as to what is going on? It was just the radio that acted strange. My mirror and seat presets were fine.

Still love the car!

I came onto the site today to see if I could find someone with this problem!! YES, I have an 06 and this exact thing has been going on for about a year now. I just took it in today to have it serviced for a few things, and I asked them to take a look into this problem. I seriously doubt they did though (any more than turning the radio on and off duh) so now I'm pissed. Here's what happens. I'll turn on my car and every now and then, the prests are ALL wrong. Then as I'm driving, they will come back at some point-sometimes just a few minutes, sometimes much longer. There MUST be a short or a lose wire or something. The next time it happens, I'm bringing it in again, and when they tell me there's nothing wrong I'm going to contact ACURA and get this fixed. I was told "maybe it's just a ghost". Yup, that was their funny answer to the problem. Anyway, this is the 1st posting I saw on this, but I'm going to look further into it...obviously it's not a ghost. Are you still experiencing this? I thought it was when it rains heavily, but it just did it again the other day, and it was a gorgeous day,so that's not it.

I haven't had the problem since the first time it's happened. Thank goodness! However, it's good to know someone else has run into this issue. Your issue does sound like some electrical problem, especially since you are having the problem more frequently. If you DO find out something, please update the post. I may run into the issue again or someone else may be having the problem. Thanks!

It happened to me, too!

2005 TL NAVI

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I thought nothing of it, though. Later that day when I got back into my car, all the radio presets were fine. It hasn't happened again since.

I started looking more into this, and it seems it's not an uncommon problem. I saw the same issue on a forum with the acura MDX and I've seen a few comments on other forums with TLs. One person said she had her radio replaced, but the problem continued and she has now been fighting acura to get the car replaced, but they have refused. So I'm thinking this is another problem with the acura models that they know of, but have not fixed. I saw on another forum that a person was told by a dealership that they are aware of the problem, but they do not know a fix for it. Very frustrating.

this is an issue with XM. When XM service is stopped, it "resets" the radio and all the settings for the radio are lost. But when XM is reactivated, it rememebers the presets and restores them. As odd as it may sound, I have experienced this in my TL a few times, and recently after the battery was disconnected.

Wow, that is definitely good to know! Come to think of it, I believe this happened to me shortly after I let my XM service run out. I have not renewed it since. And still, this weird occurrence has not happened again. Good find!

Yeah, I never renewed the XM either, and still have the problem. The presets work most of the time, it's just every once in a while they will disappear and reappear as I'm driving. Seems to be about once every other month or so. You'd think for a 30K+ car the radio would work! How difficult could it be?

Great post. Happened to me on my 08 TL this morning. Nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

Bought the car brand new and had this issue for the first time 3 years after purchase. Hope it doesn't happen again!

Thanks to csmeance for the XM explanation. That's what happened to me, I parked in an underground garage (lost the signal to xm) and when I turned on the radio all the radio stations were reset.

It should be noted I don't have a subscription to XM radio.

Weird I had this happen to me today (yes I'm bumping a 2 year old thread!) but I haven't unsub'ed my XM.

I gotta go see at lunch to see if it restored the settings.
