Which Radar do you use in your 2004 TL?
#4
Agree with both of you. I purchased mine in 1996 when I lived in North Carolina; of course now I only use it when I go out-of-state, but it's still the best. The time I had some cop tailing me on I-59 in Georgia squeezing off bursts of instant-on proved it--the V1 pointed "behind" the whole time, so I held 68 mph (in a 70 mph zone) and he finally gave up.

All radar guns are used in a stationary position. Instant-on radar gun must be held with two hands. The readings you were getting was because he forgot to turn his gun off. I really don't care where the signal is coming from I slow down just the same. One vote for x50.

Today's radar are used in moving and stationary, can pick up direction (i.e. I can be going northbound, and you coming southbound and I can check the speed of you coming the opposite direction or check the speed of the car directly in front of me).
I can pick up the fastest vehicle, so if you're passing a truck I can see how fast you're going when you're passing a truck.
The only speed measuring device used by law enforcement that is stationary only is Laser.
Furthermore the "instant on" functionality is done with one button, and can be done with one finger. In fact the entire system can be operated with one hand (for the ones that are installed in the cars).
The actual radar "gun" form factor also allows for moving mode, and are commonly used with motorcycle patrols. They are setup to be used as a "gun" (with your hands and a trigger) or as a moving radar setup.

I have a Bel Pro RX65 which has worked great so far on my big road trip. I've gone 2600 miles so far and I haven't even reached the point farthest from my house yet. Seen K, Ka, X and laser so far.

Bel 980 - I checked Consumer Reports and a number of online reviews. This thing picks up everything they throw down .. Only problem is it'll pick up Ka at almost 2 miles away (if they're shooting full bore). You start to ignore it and there they are, right infront of you. It's got great voice and can automatically reduce to "clicks" which I find easier on the ears than beeps.
I give it two thumbs ...

Also, knowing where the threat is coming from is very important. I can't tell you how often I've slowed for an initial radar warning to the front, passed by him and was ready to speed back up -- until the V1 told me of another threat TO THE FRONT. Without the arrows, I'd have figured it was just the guy I just passed.
