Radar Detector Mounting - need schematics

I am planning on mounting my radar detector to the left of my rear view mirror, and direct wiring to one of the hot wires in the map light/sunroof switch assembly.

The only problem is that I am not sure of the best way to behind that assembly so that I can perform the procedure.

Does anyone know the best way to remove that assembly? Is there an interior schematic diagram I can reference? Has anyone else done this with their radar detector? Thanks!

I have an '06 TL that just turned 3,000 miles.

I don't have a diagram for you, but I think what you are asking for is how to get the map light/sunroof switch area apart. It's easy.

With a fingernail or small screwdriver (be sure not to damage the plastic as it will look bad), pry the sunroof switch from one of the rear corners (the end facing the rear of the car). If your fingernails are long enough, you should be able to get it out using them w/o much force (as it is in my car). After you pop the sunroof switch down, disconnect the wire plug going into it. Then you can pull the light assembly down by putting your fingers in the hole and pulling the rear of it down. After that, you will need to disconnect more wires. Then if you want to get what is remaining down, you can take out the 4 hex screws.

I can't tell you what wires to tap into up there as I don't know off hand.

As a side note, the way i did my install was to run power from the interior fuse box from an available accessory power spot. This allows me to never have to remember to turn the radar detector on/off, as it gets power only when the car is running/in acc mode.

Thanks for the tips! AdamNJ, I think I might go the fuse box route. I'm assuming I could mount the detector to the left of the rear view mirror, and then tuck the wire under the headliner and pillar going down to the dashboard. Once I get to the dash, what's thes best way to get the wire down to the fuse box?

I posted my mod for this also. This way I can switch it on and off ... good luck

If you remove the sunroof switch BE DAMN careful with the SPRING that usually stays in the roof from that switch. Mine when I removed it, it came out after a bit of tugging on the rest of the roof console itself. I was lucky to find that small spring on my driver seat and put it back up. Your sunroof will not tilt without that spring.

I'm thinking about getting a V1 and installing it in the same location. I have paper plates and one ticket so far . I've gone the fusebox/A pillar route before, but never in a car that has side curtain airbags. Is this a valid concern, or just paranoia?

try this, take off the front dome light lens, take out the reflectors by pushing in on the plastic tabs. Once that's out pull down on the black house from the rear. You'll then be able to see the wiring harnesses going to the mirror and the sunroof. You'll also see the bolts that hold the entire housing up and can take that off if you want to run the wire to the rd.
