Question about front door speakers

Does anyone know the depth of the stock speakers? I'm going to replace mine real soon but i dont want to have to cut out any metal from the door. Anyone have any input on speakers that fit nicely into the stock enclosure. Ive searched for almost an hour and havnt been able to find anything good.

Depth of stock doesn't really matter. You can use a 1/2" spacer and get away with a 3" or very close to that speaker depth. Make that a 3/4" spacer and you can easily use a speaker with 3" depth

I've always wondered what the largest spacer you could use without the speaker hitting the door panel.

What is the largest spacer you guys have used?

I'm using a 3/4" spacer that's recessed about 1/4" (maybe a tad tiny bit less) and it hits the door handle of the door car a little, but I didn't put the speaker as far forward and down as I should have. I'm sure you could another one and it would be close to touching the door car where the speaker grill is.

There are some old threads with the actual maxium depth you can fit but I don't remember off the top of my head.

I also run a 3/4" spacer. The TL won't accept anything larger than a 7" but the depth isn't too bad. I stuck my Dyn650 on the door without the spacer and it fit easily. Can't remember the depth on it though.

I have about 3/8"-1/2" of foam around the baffle to seal it to the door panel. I bet you could fit a 1" baffle but that's a guess. I've been wanting to remove the speaker grill, it looks pretty easy, and put the door panel on and actually look at how things line up.

Yeah didn't think about that. I've got weatherstrip to seal my baffle so add another 1/4" so I'm running about a 1" MDF ring. Fits fine.

If I move into a place with a garage, I'd really like to find a way to angle the mid more towards on-axis. This 60deg off-axis is shit when you're in a 2-way config

Ring, baffle, trim ring, speaker mount...all the same thing.

Crap. I think I have a 1". I guess I'll be trimming the door panel.

The problem with the door panel not fitting is more an issue of diameter than depth. You will probably be ok at 1" as long as you carefully position it.

1" should be fine. You can get away with mounting it a bit lower and towards the front of the car than the factory mount too. Shouldn't be a problem though
