Thinking of getting this detector. Question for those that have it...

Does the detector automatically turn on every time you start the car? If so, is there a way to set it so that does NOT happen, and be able to power it on and off only when I want? The design is slightly different than the Escort 8500 in that it's a power button, rather than the dial on the 8500, so there's no way to ensure that it's in OFF mode when starting the car. I plan to hardwire it BTW.

Also, I've read that the RX65 never reaches a continuous tone when coming up to a radar source. Is that true?

Since you plan to hard-wire there is an awesome DIY by vp911 in the 3G garage. What he has done is he added a circuit ($10 at local autozone) in the fuse slot of the window lock button...so you can power on and off your radar from the window lock button.
