Question about backup camera install
Question about backup camera install
I'm all set to install a rear view camera in my '06 TL with Dom's converter and a CCD camera. Here's my question: Dom's unit came with a button (switch). After reading some posts from members who have done the install, I believe this is to switch the camera on full time. Or is it to switch to a 3rd video source such as a DVD player? If it is to turn the rear camera on while driving, I'm assuming the camera needs to be powered by a fulltime power source and not the reverse lights. Can anybody confirm the switch purpose and the power source for the camera if relevant?
The switch turns the unit on and sends the signal of the 1st video source to the navi screen. The rear view camera usually is connected to the 2nd video in port. You must connect one of the wires that are twisted together to the reverse light signal wire. That tells the dom unit the car is in reverse thereby powering up the rear view camera and sending the 2nd video (rear view cam) signal to the navi screen. If you wish you could wire up a switch to a 12v source and splice it into the reverse signal wire of the doms to have the rear view camera turn on anytime.
