Ported Boxes and the 3G TL

I have wondered this in a few of the recent threads, but didn't want to hijack:

How effective is a ported box in our TLs with the sub facing backwards and the box blocking a good portion of the area for the sound to enter the car? Just curious. I get that ported equals more output, but how much of that total output is effective?

I actually liked the sound of my 12W6s better when ported in my TL. The sound always finds a way to make it to the front somehow. It almost seemed like the more I blocked off the rear seat area the more it would rattle at a given volume but it could be my imagination.

I might have to do some testing in my TL with my setup...the kind without any equipment and just 2 ears haha. That'd be nice if I could get a db-meter, etc. I just got through cleaning up my wires so I could have a little more space on the sides in my trunk but with my box at 16.5" tall....It won't slide all the way against the seats. I've got roughly 3-4" on either side of the box but its the height issue that sucks. About your question, I've tried it both ways but only have had the subs facing towards the trunk for a day now. Whenever I get some free time (next week probably), I'll see what I can get using rap, rock, etc to see how each one handles punchy bass, low tones (20-35), rattles, etc.

I wish I would have been more exact with my measurements because I've got about 4-5" between the seats and my box so it kills my trunk space. Plus I need a way to keep the box in place...damn thing keeps moving on me
