At this point, what's the best option for adding screen and backup camera? (non-nav)
Hi all - Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on adding a screen/backup camera to non navi TL at this time. We've had some new developments recently with Apple Carplay and whatever android's version is called.
I'm mostly Apple stuff, so the iPad in dash is the most alluring to me, but I'd be up for a nexus install or maybe considering CarPlay receiver if it's a viable option. I don't really like that the screen would be so low and the radio screen wouldn't do much. Seems better to do some work and stick some type of tablet in.
I'd want it to look pretty clean though. Some iPad installs have looked pretty bondo-ey. Probably will drive this car until it dies though so I'm not really worried about resale. Ipad install I'd buy the pieces and go to work, I'm kind of concerned about moving the hvac and radio screens down below. Seems like making that look clean is very difficult.
Looking what people's thoughts and insights, hopefully from those who have done one of these options.Thanks.

Many people have installed the Nexus 7 and it looks very clean.
I think you'd have more fun with the android tablet than a iOS tablet since the possibilities are endless out there for mods and customization with the Nexus 7. There are mods and ROMs out there made just to turn the Nexus 7 into a car-tablet.
For a backup camera to show up, I believe you can use a "wireless" wifi backup camera and have it show up on the tablet.

Tablet is probably the easiest option, but it's not as easy for the non-Navigation folks because you need to move the A/C information screen down to the storage areas under the radio. It's comparatively much easier for people with Navigation, as the A/C information already shows up in the screen at the top of the dash. My Nexus 7 install is linked below, and includes links to several other installs including TurboCoop that did the non-Navigation installation.

honestly, the easiest way to add a backup camera to a non-navi is to buy the aftermarket mirrors that have a TV screen in them. That way you look at the screen in the rear view mirror when you are in reverse.
