8500 Laser false, I know Y

Try to point the 8500 towards the cd insert and you will know why, mines does it sometime when I unplug it infront of the CD player.

See if it does set off when you bring the 8500 closer to the CD insert.

Peace

I don't think so. I tinted my windows, only 50 all around though, but have not had any Laser false alarm with the 8500. Don't wanna hi-jack this post and make it become 8500 Laser false alarm discussion. But I seriously don't have any issues with the Laser band of my 8500 in the TL.

That's pretty bad if your attention span doesn't last unless you hear a horried, constant beeping in your ear. How long does it take you to pass a cop anyhow? My 8500 Automutes for all of about 10 (15 at the most) additional seconds for me to pass the cop. I tend to remember that it went off for that long. Oh yeah, and once I hear the initial beep I just look at the signal detector...it stays on. Oh and a 2nd yeah, the Automute only takes it down a certain number of decibals...not all the way off. So if you run it loud then the automute will take it down to mid volume...not like it turns it all the way off. You have to actually hit the real mute button to totally silence it. So I am not understanding your comment all. Are you sure you actually owned a 8500 or possibly have a VERY ancient one?

Maybe the laser alert has been turned off. No seriously I have read from a few here that they have not had laser falses with their TL, but several of us have. So if I were a potential radar detector buyer and I owned a TL, I would recognize how many are having trouble and likely consider either going with the Valetine or the new Escrt 9500.

I guess just be thankful you are one of the fortunate ones.

May be I'm one of the lucky one.

I only turned off the X band on the 8500. I'm sure that the Laser must be on. I actually sent my radar back to Escort for them to fix it as I dropped the radar on the floor one time, got the calibration error message, would not go away.

I ended up paying, I think, $85+Shipping to send the radar back and they refurbished the radar and upgraded the firm ware for me. I was going to get the Laser Shifter, needed the firmware upgrade, but decided I don't really need it... since I try my best to convince myself not to speeding. The radar came back like NEW and I was happy with their customer service... gave me a few new suction cups!!

I think you will be happy getting either one of the radars but seems like you are leaning towards the V1. I sometimes wonder how I would like it if I got the V1 in the first place, I just can't stand the look of V1 and got the Escort in the end, has been working well and saved me hundreds of dollars.

Peace.

It's been 3 years since I had a 8500. So my memory isn't as fresh as I would like it to be.

I purchased a regular phone wire and tucked in the front windshield. The wire runs down the left side, under the dash, and only reappears right at the cig adapter area. You can also see the motorcycle adapter I purchased for the mute - audio control. I may use some 3M tape, but right now I am using some gray foam in behind and on top to hold it firmly in place. The foam is hardly noticeable in the car. It shows up a great deal more in this photo.

Look at post number 50 on page 2. The motorcycle accessory can also be seen on Valentine's website. It moves the Audio control (ONLY) to an easier to reach place in the car. The other remote moves both audio AND visual to another location. The problem with that is that if you put it down were it is easy to hit the mute button, then you can't see the visual alert.

How do I turn the automute function on? got my x50 off ebay for like 220 so I cant argue about the price...but is there a manual online somewhere?

Also, how would I go about checking/upgrading the firmware?

Appreciate in advance!

Leedog - http://www.escortradar.com/pdf/8500x50manual.pdf

EDIT - I don't think there is an upgrade firmware thing like the V1's you're stuck with what you have.. As for the firmware version, I'd have to look in the manual, or read on the e-manual i linked above.

I have X-band turned off, but I hear NJ is the only state that uses X-band still?

I recall one other state, but as far as i know and where i live, x-band is never / rarely ever used.

All other bands are on.

excellent! thanks man

I heard there are so many xband interferences out there, its near impossible to prove something in a court of law, based off that detection band.
