Pairing iPhone 5 to 3G TL
I'm having a slightly different issue as some of you.
I was able to pair my phone, but it does not connect to the HFL all the time (maybe 1 in 5 times I start the car). When it does pair, it works fine.
This last time, I tried to delete my phone from the HFL and re-pair it, but I could not get it to pair. I keep getting the "no phone found" from the HFL (I know my phone is set to discoverable).
I find it hard to believe it's the HFL unit going bad because it worked fine with my Blackberry about 3 weeks ago.
Does anybody have the steps to access the HFL diagnostics to see if it shows anything?

Yesterday it wouldn't pair again so I reset the HFL, now it will not re-pair with my iPhone. I keep getting a "timeout" voice message after a few minutes when it doesn't find anything.
Any ideas? Is the HFL unit going out on me?
Update: I think my issue may be related to my phone. I went home yesterday and tried to pair my wife's iPhone 5...it worked no problem.
Then this morning, I re-tried my iPhone. I tried turning the bluetooth off then on and HFL picked it up as soon as the Bluetooth came back on.
I'm going to take my phone to get it looked at.

I haven't had a problem with pairing my iPhone 5. At first I had an issue with me picking up and not having the call transferred to the HFL. But now I just wait until a few seconds after being notified I have a call, or when the number shows up.. then I pick up.
No problems so far going with that method.

I also haven't had a problem, although I need to do it again since pulling the battery.
If you get a call, the first ring is usually just on the phone, then it goes to the car.
If you pick up on the phone before the car rings, you have to hold the phone as if it was not paired, unless you press (on the phone) for it to go to the HFL.
For the HFL to answer, you have to wait for the car to start ringing.

One non-robust/ band-aid solution..
E.g.,
Since this has been bumped its a good time to update. Mine fixed itself over time it works flawlessly now. I did nothing except maybe unhook the battery when I replaced the alternator. I can't remember what the order was, if it was already working fine or if it started working fine after disconnecting the battery.
I know this is old, but I can't get mine to pair. I've reset it to and cleared all the old phones. I see it on my iPhone 5 but if I sit and wait, it times out, and if I choose Handsfreelink TM from the list, it gives me this message, which doesn't make any sense...any help?
Hi Im new here and I just got my second Acura. This one being an 06 TL with nav. Im having a problem connecting my Iphone 5. It seems as if the system heres something else when I say Phone setup. It goes to the setup screen but nothing to pair the phone. Am I doing something wrong. Im speaking clearly so I dont think thats the problem. Any suggestions?
Turn Bluetooth on in your phone. Say the "phone set up" and "pair" commands. Then turn Bluetooth off and turn it on again, and it should pair. That worked for me.
1. Power on the phone and ensure Bluetooth® is ON. Please refer to your phone's user guide for steps to turn on Bluetooth
2. Press and release the TALK button on the steering wheel and wait for the "beep" before you speak. Repeat this step before all spoken commands
3. Say "Phone Setup"
4. Say "Pair"
5. Say any 4 digit PIN code for pairing. Remember it as you will need to enter it into your phone later. Some phones have a pre-set pairing code of "0000". Please consult your phone's user manual to see if your phone has this requirement. HandsFreeLink will now instruct you to begin the pairing process in the phone
On The Phone
6. Starting at the Main screen
7. Tap Settings
8. Tap General
9. Tap Bluetooth
10. Tap the switch to turn it on and start the search
11. Tap the expected name of the device
12. Enter the selected passcode and tap Done
13. Tap the left pointing icon to return to the previous screen
14. Or press the square to return to the Main screen This must be done to my TL or the system just times out.
15.
The system will acknowledge it has recognized the paired phone. Pairing is complete.

I have an 04 TL and I cannot get my iPhone 5 to pair. I go through the pairing process up to the point where I say a 4 digit number to pair with, and the phone sees the handsfree link but will not pair. Then the strangest thing is the car's system hangs. The panel shows "Pair" and the 4 digit number and that will not go away. The talk button does not work at that point, and even when I turn the car off, that info shows in the panel. Neither the radio or cd player will work. I have to disconnect the battery to make the panel info go away, then the radio will work normally after entering the code. I have tried it twice now and the same thing happens. Anyone else having this problem?
Thank you so much for responding. I'll try the dealership and see if there's anything they can do, if not I'll definitely look into the roadster 2. Seems like it will get the job done. Thanks again and have a pleasant week.
It wasn't a TL but my 06 TSX had the HFL unit go out.
Fortunately I had it under Extended Warranty & they replaced it for me.
It worked fine for about 2.25yrs then all in one week it went from just starting to flake out (wouldn't activate the phone when I hit the Steering Wheel Call button) for a few days. A few days it would work in the morning during my AM commute, but then that same day when leaving for the PM commute it wouldn't. Etc
Thank goodness for that Ext Wrnty, Dealer told me the OE module ran about $1,100
