Is it ok to tap into the power source of this for the pie x3?

had it plugged up all day yesterday and didn't have a problem..

BTW what is this thing for anyways? (lower right of the driver side instrumental panel garnish)

 

I believe that runs to the outlet in the center console (lower larger compartment with a light) so you should be fine.
