Noob question? Navi backup rear camera?

Is there a way you can add a camera on the back of your car so that when you put it in reverse you can see whats behind you? I know there are sensors, but I hate the sensors, and love the camera on my moms lexus.

Also, if there are such conversion kits, how much are they and are they hard to install?

You need a few parts. You need A box that allows you to bypass the navi screen with a video input signal(vsokolov is a retailer) and a camera. I suggest a plate cam, looks cleanest, but its about 400. Then you wire it in line with reveres. IE put a relay in with the reverse lights. http://qualitymobilevideo.com/Mercha...t_Code=FCBUPKG

That link includes a monitor. But I put that there for the pic. You can get the plate speratly.

I posed this question in the 2nd gen forum because I wanted to hook up a system to my moms navigation for her 01 TL but didnt get much info from it. How much of a difference is there between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen navigation controls? Rather, would there be something that would allow this to happen for the 3rd gen and not on the 2nd gen? I know this isnt necessarily in the right forum for this but if anyone has answers here, much appreciated.

Yah, sorry, that was just 1 link. Here is another site which has quite a few http://www.sigmaautomotive.com/autodax/backupcamera.php. You would probably want to get something that has night vision too. The other thing you will need is the (Vsokolov box). This is a unit which is plugged in line from the navi screen to the computer system. When swithed on it routes video from an RCA input into the navi. What you will want to do is hook the cam up to this. Then splice the cam power with the reverse lights. In addition, you will want to remove the switch from the Vsokolov box and attach a 12 volt relay to it. You will then connect the relay power input to the reverse lights. This way, when the car is put in reverse, the camera will recieve power and the box will be turned on. These shouldnt draw enough power from the reverse lights to blow a fuse.

Err. As far as the plug and play navi box that wont. If you have it professionally intalled it definatly wont. I dont THINK it will, as long as you dont botch the entire thing. But dont take my word for it.
