Non Navi to Navi Conversion Question

So i am doing the non navi to navi conversion on my 05 TL and i am ordering most of the parts in used condition for this conversion. I read through all the threads but i could not answer this question.

What components would work without having the navigation unit and wire harness for the navigation system?
Would the screen and clock unit work without the navigation unit?

I have some of the parts already that i need to test such as the screen but i dont know if connecting it will show me that the screen is working. Id like to be able to test the screen to see if it works.

If i have the screen and clock unit, i know the time would not be set but would the temperature gauge work and the screen work for the radio at least or do i need the entire setup for it to work?

If someone could answer these for me it would be a great help and i would really appreaciate it. Thanks again in advance

The HVAC is handled by the screen, which is handled by the dvd drive. The clock and radio are also handled by the navi drive. In short, your going to need to hook up close to everything in order to test the screen.

I dont think that there is a way to test the navi unit or the subdisplay until you get all the wiring in.. because:
1. The subdisplay plug is different from the non navi sub display..
2. The navi screen has extra plugs..

So, I dont know if there is anyway way to test it.. This is why I purchased 2 of the screens.. and purchased the sub display new. .only thing i was afraid wouldnt work was the dvd rom.. couldnt find an extra one of those..

csmeance is right. If you have access to the schematics, you'll see everything comes from the navi unit.

I started out on the same path that you were considering. Ended up doing the full conversion. Now I am looking at adding a carputer to add digital gauges.
