No DVD / CD Label Info Displayed?

Hi All,

New, happy TL guy here. I invested heavily in DVD-A's (I've got 25 and counting). Love the sound, but I am surprised that the DVD and CD label info doesn't display. Most disk players show artist name, track title, etc, assuming it's not a copied disk.

Am I missing a feature or is it not included?

Thanks in advance

No, you have it right; our systems don't support this feature. Sure wish they did though.

This is a huge oversight in my opinion. I can't believe this simple feature that has been around for years was left out of my + $36000 car. For crying out load this feature exists in Kia's these days.

It really bothers me that I have no idea what CD/DVD-A and track is playing. Can you tell?

1) Is this even in the DVD-A Spec? I'm guessing not.

2) The TL does NOT support CD-Text which is what does the Display for normal audio CDs. However, 95% of CDs these days dont include CD-Text anyway.

3) The TL Doesnt play MP3s as MP3s so ID3 Tags are a mute point.

PS: Panasonic makes the radio, not Acura, so you may want to poke them in the ribs and see why THEY dont support CD-Text or MP3s. (Obviously kicking Acura in the nads a few times may help expedite things)

PPS: I dont know of any hacks or fixes for this, except for using an aftermarket DVD/CD player through something like the AVelectronic Adapter.

Sorry, you miss your guess. It is in the spec, we are trying to put it in our products, but most players do not currently support it.

Many players don't support CD-Text either, that's true. However many discs, while they may not have full CD-Text info, do have the basics of Title and Artist.

I appreciate all the input here, everyone.

Count me with the group surprised that an audio system as sophisticated as this one doesn't have features included in Wal-Mart special CD players.

Well, every purchase has some compromise. I still love the car's many features. I just ordered a TREO 650 and I am crossing my fingers that everything works fine with the HandsFreeLink.

Thanks again,

My opinion on why text isn't used much on DVD-A: the preferred navigation method for DVD-As is via a video screen and on-screen menus like a standard DVD. Most home DVD-A players will play any kind of DVD and are typically hooked to a television that can be used for navigation. None of those players (that I've seen anyway) support text on their displays; they are every bit as rudimentary as what we find in our TLs.

What would have been cool (and a good argument for inclusion of Navi as a standard feature) is the display of the DVD-A on-screen menu on the Nav screen.
