Nextel BlackBerry 7100i
Yup... went to the local "partner" store today and borrowed the reps personal one. Signal meter, Battery meter, Phone icon, and Caller ID work just fine. Audio was on par with the old SonyEricson T600 series I used a while back. Finally, a Nextel phone that's actually worth something!
Nextel Blackberry paired fine for phone service but I cannot get the direct connect feature of the Nextel to work through the Acura Bluetooth. I guess this is asking too much, but I now have deactivated the Bluetooth on the Nextel because of this.
Anyone been able to get this to work?

Has anyone else with a 7100i in their TL noticed that the first phone call you may have really bad echo, like really bad? Once I drop the HFL connection and reconnect, it's fine. I'm trying to decide if the phone is busted or it's normal. Thanks.

I actually used the store reps 7100i and called around and received some calls... never got the echoing effect.
The ehoing is primarily why I didn't go with the other Nextel BBerry.

I have narrowed it down to what the issue is I just don't know what to do about it. I turns out that on occasions when ypu make outgoing calls, the bluetooth doesn't fully pair with the phone because during the crackle, I can hear audio thru the car's speakers, but when I grab the phone and blow into the mic on the phone you can hear me. Usually when a phone is paired the earpiece and mic are disable. I just don't know what to do now.
I still cant get my 7100i to pair, I said pair then it asks for a 4 digit code, then I say it but it does not do anything elese. The car does not repeat it so its stuck at that point,,, any help? thanks!
My 7100i also does not work with outgoing calls. The incoming calls are fine. My previous 7520 Nextel BB worked just fine - never experienced the problem. Has anyone requested Nextel to swap the 7100i because of this issue? What is the solution?
Getting Nextel to swap it because of an issue with a product Sprint/Nextel doesn't sell or service? VERY VERY unlikely.
Here's why I say that.
A long time friend and current drinking buddy of mine is a Sprint/Nextel store manager (corporate owned, not some cheesy "authorized rep" store). He tells me stories ALL THE TIME of people wanting their phones "swapped" due to something that has NOTHING to do with phone or Nextel's network (i.e. " my phone doesn't fit in my cupholder right, I want to swap it for one that I can see better while I drive" and other RIDICULOUS complaints)
Unless the connection issue relates to data, voice calls, or is a 'known issue' with Nextel, you would have to find a very "liberal" store that will swap for this reason.
Also, Nextel JUST ( I mean on March 1st) changed its entire policy on phone repair, exchange and servicing in stores. Things have gotten much stricter in store over the past two weeks.
If you've had the phone less than 30 days, just complain of excessive dropped calls and do an 30 day exchange (No charge)
Do you have Nextel's SafetyNet (Insurance) plan? if not then you are up a creek.
If you do, I would sweet talk the tech at the store and hope he/she is in a good mood and has not already exceeded his monthly swap out cap. *technicians are audited on how many phones they swap. too many will cut into the commissions they are paid and negatively affect their paycheck*
That's my constructive opinion.

I understand the Nextel/Sprint policy, but this does not really help me. Acura certified this phone and many said it works as expected. If this was my only phone that I tried with the HFL, I would lean more towards the car, but since my previous BB worked just fine in my car, I am leaning more towards the phone. People with the echo problem, can you explain what you have done to remedy the problem?

I called Jay (my Sprint manager bud) and he said that he only has had one, just one, customer come in complaining of echo from a BB 7100, and that was with a BMW X5.
This is just from one store, but they see customers from all over Baton Rouge, New Orleans etc. He said "I would definitely not call the echo a problem", as it is a rare issue.
Hopefully this helps.
